A bunch of people who will lay you a mortar and brick project at NO CHARGE?

Or.......

They could just be a ritualistic social organization who does things like support Shriner's hospitals.

Freemasonry is one of the oldest fraternities in the world. Yes, the Shriners are a branch of Freemasons - i.e. all Shiners are Freemasons.

Is it a "cult?" Hell, I'm a 3rd degree Mason myself and I never saw any cultish leanings. It's a fraternity; a brotherhood. It's basic tenets are kindness, peace and fellowship.

I think, as with any "secret" organization, those who are not allowed inside the building are going to make up all sorts of weird and nefarious stories.

Most masons cost $1000-$2000 bucks a piece. You can find decent deals at Kroger sometimes but every once in a while somebody runs a Labor Day sale and then you can find a buy one, get one Free Mason.

Honestly can't say I know much about them, though I'm currently building the new Masonic Lodge in my town.
