I had a coworker who drank this shit. He has a home theatre in his basement and keep a 5 gallon bucket in the corner to piss in rather than walk upstairs. One day another coworker went over to watch a movie and noticed the bucket full of rancid yellow-brown liquid and asked about it. The guy embarrassingly explained it and apologetically decided to empty it, you know, as a courtesy. But halfway up the stairs the handle ripped out of it and the bucket bounced down the stairs splashing old rancid piss everywhere. The guy told me it reeked and he wanted to leave but the stairs and floor were covered in this piss and he was not going to walk through it. So he watched our other coworker sop it up with bath towels. |

The huge house I lived in college had a coke machine right inside the door. It had been stolen years before and re-keyed. We used it to raise money by selling cold beer by the can during the day.
Old Style had two lanes. Scheafer had two lanes. Then, we had a mystery lane filled with the cheapest beer available at the time. "MASH" beer and assorted close out or semi no named brands. Cheaper the better. We also had cokes and diet cokes. The machine was set at $.65 cents so we only filled it with stuff that was $2.50 or less a 6 pack. When purchased in multiple case lots, some of the mystery beer was less than $.25 a can. Should have seen the considerable drama when it turned out that local high school students were dropping by after school and buying beer. The locals were not too upset about Juniors and Seniors buying beer. But, selling to 9th and 10th graders was kinda frowned upon. In a "consent decree" sort of resolution with the college, we agreed to move the machine to the basement, without any admission of liability for either the alleged under aged sales or the purported theft of the coke machine. |

I worked part time in the beer industry a few years ago
Schlitz is the first I thought of, that's discontinued afaik PBR was still very popular and not exactly cheap at this point. As mentioned very hip with youngsters, and older drinkers Hamm's/Hamm's lt was extremely cheap Genesee products were cheap and popular with the older VFW crowd Old Mud didn't move much save some old farts Coors extra gold was cheap, but ppl say is half decent Bar none the biggest seller Miller Lt |
|
|
For us it used to be Lucky Lager, the 11oz ones with the picture puzzles in the bottle cap.
|
|
The local Webster, TX Twin Peaks has sold the most PBR nationwide for I don't know how many years running. 5 or 6, at least. It was 2 bucks for a frozen 22 oz mug for quite a while. Now, I think it's 2 fiddy, or so. I think Ziegenbock is the same price there.
PBR me, ASAP. Loved the old billboards up in WI, back in the day! |

View Quote @FALARAK Do you know if they still make that stuff. We drank it in the short brown stubby bottles back in the 80’s. |

Around these parts the cheap beer was Brew 102 and PBR.
Stroh’s was not on the West Coast , my Aunt brought some back in her suit case , I surprised my best friends dad and gave him some. He hadn’t some in like 20 years ,he was from Detroit . |

Familiar with lots these beers...my grandpa kept the beer stocked at a convenience store a block away after his retirement in the 80s. Dude that ran the store (who was awesome to my grandpa) also sold bootleg alcohol out of the basement of that store to honkey tonk bars and liquor houses all over several counties they had a man cave set up in store basement.where they drank after hours. Pop kept all sorts those beers mentioned here in a cooler in back of his truck as my granny wouldn't let him keep it in the house. As a young chap, I sampled all those beers growing up

Now it's "Store Brand" but same thing (Member's Mark, Solimo, Kirkland, etc.) The "I'm a cheap ass" "They Live" B&W color palette kind of killed it off since the poor people and kids really stood out. For the day's you couldn't afford that Cadillac Milwaukee's Best or really live it up with Keystone (How many cans did you tear apart looking for the special lining?) |

It was horrible and tasted like corn, but damn if it wasn’t cheap and get you drunk. From there I moved up to Natural Light, Coors Light and now Natty Daddy, (8%). |

In 1985, Pearl's parent company purchased the Pabst Brewing Company and assumed the Pabst name. In 1999, the Pabst Brewing Company began transferring its production to Miller Brewing, on a contract basis, and closing all of its breweries. Pearl beer is still in production at Miller's Fort Worth, Texas, facility, but the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio was closed in 2001. All the places who list it online show "out of stock" |
