Sorry for your loss OP, I can't even imagine... I've almost done it. Driving in Finland on a snowy night in the winter, GPS still fairly new and definitely struggling on rural Finnish roads. GPS was going to send me straight into the gulf, I think there was some positioning accuracy issues. Saw a road sign with a picture of a car driving off a road into water and slowed way down. Sure enough, a couple hundred yards after that sign I would have driven straight into the water. |

Yeah, between the road layout and the signage... this is a design issue. If I see a "road ends" sign, I'm looking for the end of the road as I look for a place to turn around. Usually that means there's a barricade with reflectors on it...not a dropoff into water. |

That's not a boat ramp, that's a road that abruptly drops into water. I'm getting angry just looking at this, and I don't even know the victims. I was driving in the mountains in Colorado once after a massive rainstorm and was the first car to come across a whole section of road that had been washed away. My heart still skips recalling the slow motion processing of that... and imagining how that would have been if at night. |
