So I went to the track today for a racing event and rolled up on this....first off I won't lie, I cried a little and second if I was this kid I would suck start a 12g as he's out a few hundred k... Worse part is it still had the dealer sticker gonna have to say a driver mod is needed!

2 of 4 Z06s left on flatbeds one day when I was there. One broke in the lane next to me. He still beat me to the finish though, I was hoping I could catch him and tell everyone I beat a Z06 :D

Well on the bright side, the rest of them are worth a little more now.
And now some used parts are available for the next bonehead that wrecks one.

Foremost insurance covers bikes on the track, I switched to them this year.

Not sure if they will cover cars.

Sucks to be him just for the crash.. but the dude was probably having a blast up to that point.  He took the car to the track.. what it was meant for!!  And if he can afford that car he will be ok.

Spending 12-14 weekends each year on the track myself - I can assure you that specialized track policies for non-timed events do exist.

Absolutely. But I meant that most of your day-to-day driver policies specifically exclude track coverage.

A guy driving a Z06 crashed behind me last week in a very serious incident.  Hit the wall probably doing ~115-120 in a glancing impact as I was braking for a 180 degree turn into a banked carousel.  Took every molecule of driving skill I had to get out of his way before he slid through the carousel, ski-ramped it, slid to a stop and caught fire.

The car was completely destroyed.

I was instructing yesterday and a guy in a fast new Mustang spun out braking at the end of the long straight and hit the wall.  Flatbed time for his car.

Not necessarily.  Almost all street policies exclude coverage for "timed events" - which is why timing devices are almost universally prohibited and checked for at all HPDE events. In those cases - you are probably covered... and most HPDE events include certified instructors and classroom instruction (at least the good ones do).
More restrictive street policies will exclude "events on surfaces otherwise used for racing".  You have no coverage with those.

Track day insurance.  Or HPDE under some normal policies.

With all the 400+hp cars out there now, I wonder how many people buy a <200hp car to learn with anymore (or if the McLaren was that guy's first track car).  I've been out of the loop with autox/HPDE for about 6 years now (hoping to get back on the track next year if the stars align), but when I started autocrossing and doing track days in my stock class Dodge Neon, I was amazed at how many beginners I saw in cars that were way more than their abilities could handle.

I'll never forget the NSX at Summit Point that could only catch me on the main straight (and still couldn't get close enough to pass).  Seeing a car like that getting smaller in your rear view mirror is a nice ego boost when you're 19

Not that I'm aware of.  Even their Motorsports policies are off-track only, IIRC.

I would bet Mclaren can fix that car.  Not cheap, but doable.

ETA:  Remember this Enzo, crashed in California a few years ago?

Ferrari fixed it.
