Ate a bunch of crab and lobster on Friday, spent most of yesterday with excruciating gut pain, diarrhea, and I threw up twice. Had a fever too.

The pain is gone today and I can actually gulp water, but my ass is still exploding.

Fine way to spend your birthday.

My immune system is top notch, how long does this shit last?

There's only an average of 6 cases of cholera in the US every year.

It's more likely you got some other kind of upset belly.

May have been being a bit dramatic.

Definitely felt like I was going to die though.

I have a had food poisoning twice before and a handful of times just the standard issue stomach bug, I will take the stomach bug any day of the week over food poisoning. At least with that you throw up, feel good and sleep for a few hours, repeat.

Each time I have had food poisoning it was excruciating gut pain and the feeling like I was going to vomit all day.

Forgot to say happy birthday!

Food poisoning sucks, typically get over the worst of it in 24 hours, just stay hydrated.

It was almost scary yesterday, I was watching my 8 month old and every time I stood up I was getting double vision.

I only had her for a few hours until her mother came home but the whole time all I could think about was if something bad happened would I even be able to spring into action.

Cholera you say?

Were you on the Oregon Trail?

Did you buy the seafood at a market, or eat it at a restaurant?

If the latter, did you notify the restaurant (and maybe the City Health Inspector?)

If the former, did you prep the stuff on the cutting board that still had the remnants of yesterday's chicken breasts on it?

Just messing with you - food poisoning can be horrible.  Heck, it can kill you.  I've only had it once (In Tijuana when I was 12) and I NEVER want to experience anything like that again.

They say you don't remember pain.  Bullshit.

This is exactly why I stopped eating food and now derive all of my nutrients from air and sunshine.

Last time I had that happen to me, from shrimp tacos, I was down for like 4 days and not totally right for about 4 months. My immune system is also pretty good but whatever I got put me down pretty hard.

Considering how much better I feel than yesterday I don't think it is that bad.

Still gonna just eat bland food and lots of water today while my guts flush themselves out.

If I shit my pants at work tomorrow I am going home.

Just weighed myself.

Lost 8 lbs.

Guess that shows how much food and water we have in us at any given time.

I was out of town for a conference, and it would cycle about every 3-4 hours, just long enough to get dressed and head to the exhibition hall, then have to take off the the bathroom again. Finally I was told to just go back to my room because I looked and felt like shit. The highlight was puking on the flight home on a completely full flight home full of people I'd just spent the last week with.

Two things I've seen:

1.  A man trying to crawl underneath the dashboard of a car, and begging me to stop every 20 miles on the desert highway ("Next Gas Station - 100 miles") so he could evacuate from one end or the other.  I think he was out of t-shirts by the time we got to Tuscon (if you get my meaning.)

2.  My sister, lying in bed, unable hold her head up enough to sip water from a glass.  In hindsight, I should have called an ambulance.

Yeah, people still get that shit.

Jesus. I've had some nasty bouts with food poisoning, but never have I stopped and thought "You know what, I think I have Cholera."

I just assumed people didn't really get that much anymore. According to the CDC, there was only one case in the US in 2011 in which the person did not travel outside the US. So as long as I stay out of Haiti and the Dominican Republic I should be good. lol

Of course, that's only confirmed cases.

Also- it's Tucson. Sorry, just a pet peeve from growing up there.

I noticed yesterday that my lips were a little tingly .

After that episode it will probably be a long time before I can even stomach any crab or shrimp again.

Stupid shellfish, always trying to kill everyone.

Been drinking water like mad and just ate a wrap with some bland rice and cheese, feeling way better now.

Plan on going to visit the doctor about this if you're not getting better by Tuesday.  I had some sort of stomach bug that was worse than any I ever had.  The doctors suspect it was e Coli, but I had waited more than a couple of days to go get the problem looked at..

What ever that was, it led to kidney failure as my body was trying to clean the toxins produced by the infection out of my system.  The kidney failure led to my heart problems that took over a full year to finally get fully corrected.  I'm very lucky the heart problems were treatable with more than just medications, because all the medications tried failed to stabilize my heart beat.

Long story short, get to a doctor early and you can avoid the more serious health complications that an grow out of what only seems to be a simple stomach/intestinal bug.

Activated Charcoal

Take two of these capsules and dump the contents in a cup of luke warm water, mix and drink it all down, it tastes like dry chalky water and wil have you right inside a few hours, maybe even faster.

The next time you run into something like this do this immediately and you won't have to suffer the vomiting, cramps, gas or diarrhrea.

It works like magic because the charcoal binds to the bacteria rendering it unable to multiply and letting your immune system knock out what already exists.

Dont; forget to hydrate to counter the fluid loss, Pedialyte or a one of the Gatorade types drink that don't have a citric acid bite to them.

After you get clear of this eat some all natural yogurt or take a probiotic pill for cuople of days to ensure that your intestinal flora are proper.

Happy Birthday

Feeling like a million bucks by comparison tonight.

Ate lots of rice today and actually had a wrap with some tomatoes and peppers on it for supper.

My kidneys were feeling a little sore this morning, but I have been pounding water, finally pissing somewhat clear again.

Read in a book about Soviet Guerilla where the writer had cholera in a PoW camp.  He got burnt bread (charcoal) and took it with clean water.  That's all he took for a while and it cleansed him.

If you have any antibiotics around your house, take one pill and in an hour you'll be feeling much better.
