Quoted: What if you suck at everything? Is there a spot open for class clown? Come and learn to suck less. I improved across the board from my first year. Hiking, land nav and the O Course. The only guy who beat me on the shooting portion last year was a guy with a monster rifle set up who is in charge of barrel design at proof research. |

Quoted: In earnest, assuming there will be no opportunity to attend any formal training between now and then, what are the key things to practice in preparation? Get fit and practice land nav. Also learn how to tie a Swiss seat. We'll put on a land nav event for you to practice at in in April in CO. |

Quoted: In earnest, assuming there will be no opportunity to attend any formal training between now and then, what are the key things to practice in preparation? Be in good enough shape to ruck 12 miles and then complete the rest of the 36 hour event with minimal sleep. Land nav. Shooting pistol from 10-35 yards, rifle from 100-600 yards, while gassed from running the o course. Be prepared to think on your feet for everything they don't tell you about beforehand. Show up, do hard things, find out where you stand, get better. The only real failure is staying home. |

Quoted: Lol. She’ll be part of the duo. Unclear at this point as to whether or not the other gal can see in the dark. Seriously, it'd be awesome to see a female duo out there getting it done. Dangernarf, TheRadbaron's wife, came out in '21 and and held her own against an otherwise all male field of competitors. |

There are competitors, and there are ladies and gentlemen on the sidelines. |

Quoted: This is an American Pioneer Corps event, correct? Aside from the website, can anyone here offer any information/guidance about getting started with APC? Pick up a task book from amazon, find a couple friends and go start doing cool shit. Check the APC site for scheduling updates on national/regional training events. On the local level, it's up to local guys, meaning you. We're working on getting the website updated. Until then, here's a link to the tentative 2023 schedule right here on ARF. |

On the local level, it's up to local guys, meaning you. We're working on getting the website updated. Until then, here's a link to the tentative 2023 schedule right here on ARF. I'd like to add a couple things to this- At the local level, APC is entirely locally run. Nationally we can provide support to local events, but we don't plan them and typically will only support directly when requested. There is no actual "joining" APC in the typical sense, at least not at this time at the national level. The sign up on our website was used to compile a mailing list to coordinate and inform folks of events and opportunities, but we've had major issues with the email server we are on blocking our mass mailings. The most important things you can get from APC isn't free ammo, or free and/or cheap high quality training...the most important things you will get from APC are an improved understanding and awareness of yourself, improved ability to plan events and lead others, and the opportunity to make great friends in adverse conditions. But it is on you at the local level to get things started. Once you do that, other things will start falling into place. Find at least two buddies and start hiking and getting into shape so you can safely participate in the more advanced events. The ratings in the Pioneer Task Book are organized in a specific order for a reason. You don't necessarily HAVE to do them in order, but some national or regional events may have prerequisites of X, Y, and Z, or of a _____ rating. This is so that the staff of the event knows you've reasonably prepared and are less likely to be a hazard to yourself or others. Join us in making ourselves and each other better. |

Thank you both for the information! Ordered the task book. I'm also going to dig in to the Arf link you provided. I was an Infantry Squad Leader, Airborne, Air Assault, Rappel Master, HWLC, and did some other minor things. I'd love to get involved and learn and also maintain/improve those skill sets with other folks. |

It is basically similar the Sapper Leader Course curriculum, plus Wildlands fire fighting courses. There is stuff beyond the Task Book, particularly for guys who already have most of all the skills in the Task Book, but right now we are focused on making our first fully qualified Pioneers. If you dedicated a weekend every month, consistently, it would take about two years to complete the Task Book if you're starting from zero. But nothing is stopping people from working through it more quickly. |
