A simple question.  Who will side with the United States when the next ultimate throw down occurs?  I heard today that is was likely that China, Russia, Syria, and India would side with Iran.  Iran is pumping out major cash to make friends.

We would have the United States, Great Britain, Isreal, and who else can we truly count on?  Maybe the Danes.  With a new government I hope Canada would fall in line.  Austrailia?  New Zealand?  Japan?

Is it inevitable?

Syria would side with Iran. India, no. Russian, doubtful. China, hell no, they're enjoying our trade deficit way too much to risk losing it.

The two who would only matter as far as siding with us would be Great Britain and Israel. Anyone else won't have much of an impact other than to wink at us diplomatically.

The countries that don't side with us will be the ones that don't get The History Channel.

Israel would fuck us in a second if it suited their needs.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive.
I don't fault Israel for putting themselves first, I don't trust them for a second.

Incorrect.

Assuming Israel told us to go FOAD (so to speak), they certainly would put up a damn good fight defending themselves from the Arab nations for the first first months. Without our precious aid and technology, they wouldn't make it longer than a year.

They may not adore us, but they certainly won't shoot themselves in the foot either.

I think Israel would side with China over us.
China has bought US military secrets from Israel in the past.
China will also give military aid without...oversight as to how it is used, unlike the US.
Like I said, I admire Israel's willingness to put themselves first.
I just don't like it when we are on the wrong end.

Israel will initially, europe will be forced into it.  Russia will lead the muslim coalition against the US and Israel in the final battle.

Regardless of trading practices, nobody really gives a fuck about Islamic fundamentalists. No major player would side with Iran against the US in a shooting war. Such a war would not be about political ideoligies so China (being Communist) would not side with Iran. They've never really been in the business of exporting communism anyway. China only got in to the Korean war to keep the status quo.
Russia has it's own problems with Islamo - Fascists. India depends too much on the US for technology. They also have trouble with muslims. Our traditional allies and the new NATO partners would also not side against us. As usual, we would fight pretty much on our own with a little symbolic support here and there.

Jed Eckert: ...Well, who *is* on our side?
Col. Andy Tanner: Six hundred million screaming Chinamen.
Darryl Bates: Last I heard, there were a billion screaming Chinamen.
Col. Andy Tanner: There *were*.

Allies
USA
Britain
Austrailia
New Zealand
South Africa (former British Colony that still has a lot of pro-western supporters)
Poland
France (yeah,  believe it or not, france)
Israel
India (I think they'll be with us since they have no love for pakistan or china)
Taiwan
South Korea
Canada
Italy
Most, if not all, of the other western european nations that I haven't mentioned yet (A revived russian bear will scare the beejeezus out of western europe)
Many of the central european nations will be with us as well because, again, a revived russian bear will scare them and bring up bad russian memories.

Axis
Russia
China
Cuba
North Korea
Iran
Pakistan (I fully expect for musharref to catch an assassins bullet or bomb sooner or later)
Syria
Saudia Arabia (I also fully expect the saudis to betray us in the name of islam sooner or later, as well. Perhaps I'm just cynical.)
Venuzuela
Practically all muslim countries with the possible exception of jordan and kuwait.
Mexico (Am I just being cynical again???)
Most central and south american countries (Why is socialism/communism taking over much of south america? Did I miss a memo or something?)
Most (but not all) of the countries located on the African Continent (i.e. egypt, libya, tunesia, somalia, etc)
Most far asian countries (Red China's far asian influence ranges far, wide and deep.)
A good number of central european/ex-eastern block/ex-soviet states that are seperate from russia but are loaded with a lot of islamic fundamentalist (i.e. chechneya, uzbeckistan, etc)

Did I miss anyone? How about any neutral countries? Who (if any) will attempt to remain neutral in the next big show?

There's not going to be a WWIII in the middle east for these reasons:

China will be screwed if they lose oil, and if TSHTF, they will lose oil. They also lose a huge trading partner which of course is the US.

Hamas is now a STATE managed terrorism organization. An attack against Israel is an act of war of IDI will respond accordingly. I'm betting that Israel will smack down real hard on the dumb shits after their first terror attack. Probably making plans right now to invade and destroy and depose the Hamas leadership. Since Hamas IS the state, Israel will respond to the state.

Sharon tried to meet the rags half way. They interpret that as weakness and Hamas takes the credit for 'driving Israel out of Arab lands' and therefore gets elected. Now the Israelis have to respond in a way the rags understand: Overwelming force.

Israel has an election coming up real soon...like the end of Feb. I think where a more conservative like Netanyahu will be elected. He WILL use a very firm hand with Hamas.

Iran is NOT going to be allowed to go nuclear as long as Israel exists which means as long as the US is their principle ally. Irans Assahola Ayatolla's think the US is in a state of weakness due to Iraq and they're trying to exploit it. They realize the UN is a joke and of no consequence. Pretty clear why the Pres wanted nuke bunker busters, huh?

Russia has much more to gain to use mideast oil and turmoil to counterbalance US influence than it does to provoke a confrontation. No confrontation is much better for them in favor of politics, threat, terrorism etc.
