Regarding the recently locked thread, I was wondering if it was allowed for me to post a pic of my grandfather standing next to his B17 which has nose art that shows........A NIPPLE !!!
But I already know the answer.
The pic I have framed on my wall along with others that my kids see and anyone else who comes in can see is not fit to post here.
Pics of some of our greatest warriors and greatest planes would not be welcome here.
Grow up you weenies, its a part of our history, a history I'm proud of.

I am ashamed that somewhere along the line the Air corp decided it was OK to paint huge obscene murals on government aircraft. I like modern aircraft better. My kids can actually go see them. If I wouldn't allow my children to hear a verbal description of the "ART" why would I let them see it?!Planerench out.

So basically what the "COC" is saying is that the pic of my grandfather would be considered pornography.
Thats good to know.

I think that's why they 'disbanded' the AAF and started the AF in 47. It was part of the reorg after the shake up that occured when it was revealed that the AAF 'humiliated and disrepected' women in such as manner. To think they used them as, as, as............sex objects simply to help keep up morale.

I can assure you that was NOT the reason, at all.

'Obscene' nose art continued into Korea, Vietnam, and Gulf War I, although I am not certain it is present today.

Let these young men be young men, fercryingoutloud.

Remember the pic of the "interesting" desert khaki and brown camo pattern on a Super Stallion from Kandahar that was circulated a few years back... It's still there, just not as obvious.

I also remember some non-sexual nose art. At an airshow a week before 9-11, I saw a tanker with the slogan "When its time to Kick Ass, We Pass Gas"

From the CoC:  "Nudity includes any photo which contains a clear view of genitalia or female nipples."

I don't believe "Nose Art" qualifies as a photo.  It's a painting (art).  What do you think?

For the record i Im'd vito and told him the exact reason i locked the thread. He was fine with it. Several of the mods and staff fought DAMN hard not long ago to get some things eased up here in GD. I don't want to see those changes undone.

Well, technically, it is a photo containing nipples.  It's a photo of a painting that has nipples.

Seriously, though, I can understand that not being kosher in the thread.  I think a link with a warning would be fine though.

Jeeze, I go away for a week and what happens, a brother Brit makes an unfortunate mistake, hope ya didn't get/deserve too severe a smackdown mate!

Any chance we could just re-open the thread and make sure there was nothing there that contravened the CofC? Or would that fall foul of the CofC for dupes, or just invite trouble because somebody would post the offending images again?

Cheers,

Nipples is nipples, male or female.

I wonder why the CoC makes a specific prohibition against female nipples, but male nipples are apparently okay?

Since pictures of real American history ist verboten. Perhaps a new thread with all the "naughty bits" fuzzed censored out would be politically correct as not offend the girlie men.

I am curious though since a painting on a war bird of a topless fem with a dragon wrapped around her is not good. Is a "tool shot" on a web sites logo not good also?
perhaps a pic of a reciprocating air too is pushing the limit too. lets find out

I think the CoC ought to be 'policy', ie flexible, instead of totaly rigid.

A nipple on a nose art picture isn't like a centerfold.

One's history, the other can easily be defined as porn.

Grey's Anatomy isn't porn.

And how many of these overly endowed are actually on public display ??
If I were to start a thread here showing WWII nose art including some of those nudies, it would now be locked.  Same if I were to start a thread about classic art of the world in which there were nude statues or paintings.
The point of this thread wasn't to allow public nudity or pornography, rather to point out that certain objects of art or history are all lumped together as if it were pornography.

I think someone is getting kind of picky when he picks on B-17 nose art. The AAF lost 60 in one raid at Schweinfurt and 69 on a Berlin raid, they each had a crew of ten.

In the hundreds upon hundreds of books that I have in my personal library on the United States Airforce and the Army Air Force, I have never read or heard of such a statement.

The creation of the United States Airforce was a natural progession spearheaded by General Spatz I believe. I'd have to dig to get the facts correctly.

Your comment is in jest correct?

EDIT------------------------------------

Here you go. Took me a few minutes.

Almost from the beginning of military aviation in the U.S., some men such as Billy Mitchell had urged the creation of a separate air force. During WW II, the AAF was almost independent from the Army, but this was only a temporary wartime situation. However, experience gained during the war had shown that an air arm independent and co-equal with the Army and Navy could perform satisfactorily.

After months of inter-service and congressional negotiations and compromise, on July 26, 1947 President Harry S. Truman on board the presidental aircraft "Sacred Cow" signed the National Security Act of 1947. The measure established an independent Air Force for "offensive and defensive air operations" and placed the Army, Navy, and Air Force on an equal level under a civilian Secretary of Defense. The Department of the Air Force began operating as a separate entity on Sep. 18, 1947 at which time W. Stuart Symington was sworn in as the first Secretary of the Air Force. General Carl Spaatz, WW II commander of U.S. Strategic Air Forces in Europe and in the Pacific, was named the first USAF Chief of Staff.

This is The Pen with which President Truman signed the N.S.A.

President Truman's signed statement indicating the Sacred Cow as the place where he created the United States Air Force.

It completely blows my mind that the Staff/Mods cannot make a distinction between pictures of some REAL LIFE woman showing her privates to a camera and true pictures of WW2 noseART ....

BTW I don't have a problem with the art during war as a moral booster. I don't care if you have a book or calandar depicting such art. I don't even care if you want to paint your warbird up like it was in the great WWII. My famility will just not be attending or paying to ride in your aircraft. I am NOT for censorship! I don't waiver in upholding my family's standards and that includes pornography on the side of an aircraft no matter how "historical". Planerench out.

Why don't people understand that AS SOON AS an exception is made to the "no nips no lips" rule, all kinds of assmonkeys are going to come swarming out of the woodwork to push the issue with other "bordeline" and "ambiguous" stuff like artsy B&W phographs of naked chicks, or cartoon naked chicks, or paitings, murals, mosaics, etc of naked chicks.

It's not an issue of a particular type of image, it's the precedent that creates a constantly moving target that then becomes impossible for mods to enforce because everything other than a huge gaping vagina in technicolor is now ambiguous and everyone will start whining about how the rules are unclear, and double standards, and blah blah blah

Why not just stick with the rules that work, and live with the fact that there's an occasional thing that falls through the cracks.

OK… my pennies worth…

I accept why my thread was locked… no problem with that…

(Rant mode … not directed at the Mods!…on)   What I do have a bit of a problem with is some of the moralizing here about 'pornography'……

Just a bit of a reality fix for some of you… we have thousands of our Servicemen, both US and British, out in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting people who would be proud of some of the crap about 'naked women' being spouted around here.

We have people fighting and dying trying to rid the world of people who consider the sight of female flesh so corrupting and disgusting they make women dress up like in the picture above.

Why do servicemen paint naked women on the sides of their planes, tanks and post pictures above their bunks? It's easy to understand if you have ever been in harms way… once you realise that in the next five minutes either your or your buddies could be killed you need something to keep you sane and your mind off the fear of dying you feel, and that is were the nose art comes in. Thousands of servicemen died in those planes in WWII, they are a very important part of history, and wanting their 'pornographic' nose art  kept away from sight does the memory of their sacrifice a disservice.

Hundreds of thousands of children will see the Collings Foundations B-24J "The Dragon and his Tail" this year, will they be 'corrupted' or 'shocked' by the nose art? No… but they will be better people for seeing the sacrifice the men flying those planes made for freedom and an 'open minded' and 'tolerant' society.   (Rant mode … not directed at the Mods!…off)

BTW… Moderator Approved RAF noseart from Operation Iraqi Freedom will be posted tonite in a new thread!
