Lets see if I can remember the story correctly. It has been a few months since it was told to me:
Lady comes into my family's picture framing store in New Jersey, wanting to frame a few of these envelopes. The lady was the addressee, and the writer was a GI at the height of the war in the Pacific. They were married at the time, however after the war they divorced. The lady threw away the contents of the letters, however kept the envelopes (with good reason).
Each letter was hand painted with a cheapo set of watercolors one would expect to see in 4th grade art class. She had about a hundred envelopes.
My mom was so impressed she convinced the lady to let her take pictures of each one.
When I visited home for Xmas last year mom burned me a CD of all the pictures. Here are but a few, but my favorites (dumbed down from origional size).
edited to add, photobucket will probably die, so save now!!!
