Unlike the popular Hollywood movie, I can recall hearing an interview from a Soviet veteran of Stalingrad.
He noted that many drowned crossing the Volga because they had so much gear, particularly the great coat which weighed them down in the water. |

Gotta be a fake.
Everyone knows that a Soviet soldier wouldn't be that well equipped

I'm looking at an RGD-33 and an F-1 frag on the same belt.

He probably didn't survive the war.
Most Russian infantrymen didn't even get basic training. |

Early on no. But as the reforms of 42-43 accelerated that statement isn't really true, though their training still was only measured in the space of a few weeks. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I imagine they learned pretty quick.. get good or get dead |

Not sure what form of bang stick that is on the far right, but it looks like you could club a Russian boar to death with it
Probably kept it after the war to deal with Olga back on the 'ol homefront |

The backdrop tells me it was definitely a posed portrait shot and I've seen a few like that from other wars and other countries, it's kind of a cliche actually. Traveling photog makes a few bucks dressing up soldiers in rambo kit and selling them shots to send home. |

Reminds me of the ones the Germans cobbled together from several Stielhandgranates. Of course, the Russian version looks like an ration can |

I am glad we did not need children soldiers, but we fill our kid's heads with muck, HFC syrup, texting, and video games.

Just noticed, he only has the single PPsH drum.
Guess he's really hoping on the hole shock and awe approach, since he'd rip through that single mag pretty fast. . . |

When i see this picture i think "My name is Yuri and I like to party."

The only visible ammo he his carrying is not compatible with the guns he has. Real bad ass.

PPSh41s were produced with rifle-style adjustable rear sights?

Rapist motherfuckers......
that's from my grandfathers experience when they entered Hungary like savaged animals they are. the local village in western Hungary killed a platoon of them off after they made the local city hall into a whorehouse for the school girls and BOYS that were hiding. Got them drunk....cut them down like pigs they were and then cut them up into tiny little pieces.....some diesel and burned them up. Fuck them. |

It is Hungary's fault for siding with the Germans..no greater than small boys joining the biggest baddest gangster in the neighborhood with no choice or little choice.
People keep saying kids today have a choice in escaping gangs.......try being a country stuck between two gangsters and not having a choice unless you are the Swiss, and you had more badass toys than the two gangsters so they left you alone. Savages is just my opinion from my families experience. Murder, rape, pillage, looting.....that is the legacy of the Russians when they entered Hungary. |
