The wife mentioned the idea of trading her vehicle in for a Jeep Wrangler.
Cool I thought let me check the local guys to see what they have in stock. My face went from <img src=http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle> to <img src=http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> real fucking quick. 46k for a Jeep?!? A FUCKING Jeeep Wrangler !?!?!? |
|
I realize it's the top of the line *snicker* Sahara model but fuck, does anyone really drop 40k on a Wrangler?
|
|
What happened is Jeeps became 'in' with the popular crowd who use them as status symbols and never intend to take them off road. Price goes up and guys who want Jeeps to take off road have to pay 40k for them now. This is why I won't buy a Jeep.
|

you can't even get a brand new 'aluminum' F150 under $40K, and that's base not including tax and license.

You don't buy a 40k vehicle as a status symbol; you buy a new Audi, BMW, etc. as a status symbol. Some people buy them because they think they are cool (even if they never go of-road), but it's not a status symbol. Nobody is impressed by a 40k vehicle these days. Even a piece of shit little 4-cylinder car is over 20k. Everything is getting expensive. 15k+ for a lot of motorcycles, over 10k for many ATVs, over 10k for most sleds, 20k for a side-by-side UTV, etc. Might as well get used to it, because yelling at clouds won't do any good. What other sort of new 4x4 vehicle do you plan to buy that has the capabilities of a Rubicon for less than 40k? It doesn't exist. Also, you can buy Jeeps for under 40k, but it won't be a Rubicon, and you will probably have to order it. Most dealers only seem to carry the loaded (high profit) models. |

But you can get a new Rubicon for 40k, if you shop around and buy at the end of a model year (46ish the rest of the time). I basically said where are you going to find a new 4x4 with Rubicon capabilities for less than the price of a Rubicon. It doesn't exist. |

They are buying Jeeps because they are cool, and they want to look cool driving one, not for a Jeep's off road capabilities...that makes them a status symbol. View Quote from MW: Status symbol -something (such as an expensive car) that a person owns and that shows wealth or a high social status Status symbol means that it shows wealth, not that it looks cool. You don't get to make up your own definitions for words. I could buy a 72 Vega because I think they look cool, but that doesn't make it a status symbol....not even if other people think they look cool. But a status symbol will vary based on where you live. If you had a 72 Vega in sub-Saharan Africa, some people might call you wealthy. |

Bought my 2015 Rubicon for $30k, brand new with 3 miles on the odometer.
Of course it's a 2 door with a manual transmission, manual windows, crank windows and non powered mirrors, it has AC, Sat. radio and a Freedom hard top. It replaces a 1977 CJ7 so it's like a Cadillac in comparison. Now if you want a 4 door Rubicon with power everything and heated leather butt massaging seats you're going to pay over $40 k for one. |
