Well...
The old Packard Bell I'm on right now is a "hand-me-down" from my kid brother... I guess he decided it was time to upgrade my stuff, and got me an early Christmas present... He's a good kid...[:D] The order details in my first post were a "copy-n-paste" from a surprise email I got from him... Looks like he will be getting a new AR15 from me for Christmas... |

MUCH faster than what you've got. Dell makes a decent machine, you'll be happy with it.

I never meant to imply that XP was GOOD, just better than the previous stuff MS dumps on consumers. I've blown my share of XP machines too, but like Gus said, Art's a "user", not a geek. Not bad ... you should of held out for the 3.0 Ghz with the 800 Mhz FSB, Hyper Threading, and the 400 Mhz DC-DDR RAM. [:D]
Sounds like a nice machine none the less - if you've been limping along on an older machine there's nothing like sailing along on a new one. What the hell happens in three years to a computer that changes it from a flaming sports car of a machine to one that just limps along ... |

That's why I believe the 3 year lifespan is gone, and a new 5 year life span has started. The hardware is too far ahead of the software nowadays. Games and photo/video stuff seem to be the only thing 99% of the users do that actually tax these new computers. |

I just built mine last week 2.5 ghz AMD barton 512m 333 FSB Asus's best m-board. cdrw w/ dvd rom getting a 128mb ddr nvidia 5200 vid card this week Should do better than the 900 mhz amd I had TXL |

For those that don't know me personally... I'm 36yrs old, and only started fooling with a computer this last year or so... Prior to that, I was a WebTV junkie. [:D] So far, I've been able to stumble through the learning curve on my own... I'll NEVER be able to use a computer to it's full potential... Anything more complicated than flipping a switch to turn it on, and I'm lost... I need something basic, simple, powerfull and reliable... This goes for cars, trucks, and guns too. [:D] |
