Just got back from spending a week in my old stomping grounds... Wisconsin. Specifically, Dane, Columbia and Sauk counties. I went to several fun/sporting stores and the EBRs were almost non-existant. Other than the GanderMountain in Baraboo, NOBODY had an EBR!!! Just for fun (I already knew the answer) I went to a sherrif's office in each county and asked for a non-resident concealed handgun permit, and each office freaked out, telling me in no uncertain terms that concealed carry was ILLEGAL and I better not even consider carrying a gun. I then asked if I could keep a loaded handgun in my car - and they made their position even clearer about the "danger" to society by people carrying guns in their car. While at the fun/sporting stores, I asked about handgun purchases and was happy to hear it is no longer a "three day cooling off" period. However, you still cannot hunt with a cross bow, nor can you carry a handgun while carrying a shotgun or rifle while hunting. (WTH??) On top of the anti-gun position, the pro-taxation, libtard mentality of Wisconsin (as a whole) I am happy as fuck I moved out of that shit-hole state more than a decade ago. |

If you couldn't find an EBR, then your not looking in the right place. I'm in MIL and i know of 8 places off the top of my head within 10 minutes of here where you could get any EBR your heart desired. There is a 48 hour waiting period on handgun purchases (sucks but boo frickin hoo). And we've got a pretty critical election coming up that will decide our CCW fate. But thats ok, we don't like you either. Glad you left. |
Oh, my area noted involved Dane, Columbia and Sauk counties - not the Milwaukee area. Milwaukee is better than Madtown. Not by much, but it is better. |
Try going to a actual gun shop (gander mountain is NOT a gun shop) there are several right in Dane county that sell EBR's. I live in Madison and grew up around the Baraboo area. The gun shops will sell you all the EBR's you want. The small guys need the buisness anyhow. |
My local gunshop, forever, when I lived there was Dam Road Gun Shop, in Delavan. Mike was stocking AR-15's and .50 BMG's when they weren't cool! |
Dam Road Gun Shop is still there. I haven't been there in many, many, years, but it's a nice shop. hopefully wisconsin and illinois will get over their hoity toity attitude about guns and make some reasonable fun law changes, i mean gun law changes. |
|
There's two gun stores in Baraboo. You went to the wrong one. What's the point of going to the sheriff's department when you know there isn't any legal CCW? If that's the most fun you can have in central Wisconsin, you're not looking very hard BTW, you can carry a handgun while hunting, and there is a 48-hour waiting period on handgun sales. Since you got both those facts wrong, you're clearly consulting a quality shop. Get out of Gander Mountain ![]() I'm enjoying a cool, beautiful fall here in God's country. No hurricanes for months now

where do you get your information? how do you arrive at the understanding that we (cheeseheads) cannot carry a handgun while hunting?? how did you arrive at the decision to stir the shitpot at the sherrif's office if you already knew the answer? here in wisconseen we stand a good chance at cc...as soon as we dump Doyle. the so called anti gun position and pro taxation mentality will go out the window as soon as we get rid of the libtard representation. in the meantime if you are so miserable as to resort to misinformation and waste the time of law enforcement in three different counties and are that unhappy then stay the fuck out, please. |
And once WI drops this inane ban on legal self defense then we poor FIBastards stand a (slightly) better chance at getting CCW in IL. ![]() Sorry... forgot about Hizzonner and his evil minions in $pringfield. |
LMAO.(cough)Cheesehead(cough) As far as WI goes, I've been there twice in the past two years. Both were to attend a Girl Scout camp as I am a co-leader.(Yeah I know). A few years ago my GF and her famiy and my mother and I went to "The Dells" for a vacation and I enjoyed myself immensely. So WI is a nice state IMO. Speaking of Delavan, I was not too far from that area the last time I went(few weeks ago in the Whitewater/East Troy area). As far as WI and their gun laws, I'll inform you that they do not allow CCW, and every time it comes up in the legislature in Madtown it gets voted down every time it comes up for a vote. As I understand it, if you decide to skirt the law and carry anyway it's a misdemeanor, as opposed to IL where it's a felony. The only other good redeeming factor to WI versus IL is that you do not need what we call here a FOID(Firearms Ownership ID, aka the card of the communist devil). Also as I understand it that full auto is allowed there, but not sure if SBR or SBS or silencers or suppressors are allowed. |
|
Sounds like that sherrif's office gave you some misleading info. First of all, open carry is legal, so I don't know what's up with this crap about them saying you better not even consider carrying a gun. Although you'll probably get hassled pretty good in any big city open carrying. Also, CCW is legal on your property and for a business owner at his place of business. Yeah, I know...but it's better than nothing. Finally, carrying a gun in your car is legal as long as it's not loaded and it's cased. It's not all bad though. Class 3 is legal. Apparently (according to photoman's conversations with the DNR) it's also legal to hunt with a suppressor. Go figure.

Well if it sucks so much, write your own IQ test Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children |
You've always had to post bond if you are out of state and do not have significant ties to the community (ie: work there, have close relatives, own property and the like) |
|
"As far as WI and their gun laws, I'll inform you that they do not allow CCW, and every time it comes up in the legislature in Madtown it gets voted down every time it comes up for a vote." Why must the internet be full of people that have no freaking clue what they are talking about??? CCW passed the vote last year but our soon to be exgovernor vetoed it. extra_ammo, good to see you go. Enjoy your hurricanes and humidity. |
What really sucks, is Tommy Thompson said time and again "Put a CHL bill on my desk and I will sign it." ![]() You folks up in WI seem to miss the point that it's a losing battle there. The Gov't is alway teetering on the edge. Why? Because so many people in that state are Democrats, and they get 1 vote per person, same as Republicans. That, and the strong Fud crowd there REALLY belives guns are for "hunting" I left as soon as I got my head out of my rear, and let me tell you. After living in a couple of free states (ND and TX) I'll never move back. |
The comment about not being able to carry a hand gun AND long gun during deer season came from the guy at Gander Mtn that sells hunting licenses. As far as "staying the fuck out" of Wisconsin - I do. I was born and raised in that libtard cesspool and hate every trip back there for funerals, weddings, etc. I don't vacation to Wisconsin because there are so many other "better" states to spend my money in. I prefer to vacation in states that recognize the right of self-defense. Yea, you can carry gun in an an UNLOADED, and IN A CASE gun in your car. What good does the gun do you in the trunk, in a case, unloaded when you're in the parking lot getting stabbed?? You sound like you've bought into the mentality already. The only gun that matters is the gun on your person - not the gun at your home, your office, or in your car. |
The rest of that stuff I can let go, because you obviously don't know where to look for guns around Dane county. The shit in red is pretty much that shit. Big stink so you can't hunt with a crossbow yet, there is a movement growing to change that, but untill more hunters who want to use them becmome vocal enough, it's not going to change. And you CAN carry a pistol while out hunting with a shotgun or rifle. I do it all the fucking time, if it were illegal the DNR would have arrested my ass at least 4 times in the last two years. You just can't carry it concealed. We can hunt with short barreled rifles and shotguns along with suppressors too as long as you are legaly in possesion of the weapon. And wheree is the anti-gun position? Execpt for the whole lack of CCW in public thing what exactly do you mean by anti-gun position? We can legaly open carry, we can own NFA guns, we have a state pre-emption law when it comes to firearms, hell we have law that protects public ranges. This state is not as anti-gun as you seem to want it to be. |
|
I guess I'm an outlaw then...I always take my handgun along when I hunt. ( not migratory waterfowl, but game that's legal to hunt with a handgun). Hey WI ain't perfect, but it suits me and my family fine. My favorite time of year is here. Calling for snow tomorrow .
|
yea, handguns require 48 hrs. i can think of a bunch of gun shops that do in the fox val. area. (i think i remember hearing that any type of ar's are not allowed in mad. City ord. maybe?but i'm not sure there) and as far as the handgun goes while hunting, you can carry aslong as it is not concealed. hell, even for deer hunting, (the min. length barrel is 5 1/2"), you can carry anything on you aslong as it's visable. I have a 4" service xd that i carry on my while deer hunting. The dnr says aslong as you have a primary weapon with you they don't care. |
Yup, that is a bad mentality. Guns are "not" just for hunting, and the sooner the Wisconsin Deer Hunters get that through their head, the better. A bolt action .308 is a "good" gun for hunting but an AR10/LR308 is an EBR and has no business hunting. Right? ![]() |
Actually, that's not true. We have a law that says no local ordinances can be more strict than state gun laws. Since AR's aren't illegal in WI, they can't be illegal in Madison either. Edit: Here is the exact text of the law (I carry all the state stats regarding firearms with me at all times)

The only thing wrong with Wisconsin is that we share a border with Illinois. NFA is legal. Open carry is legal. Hunting with suppressors or Short barreled weapons is legal. Hunting with as many weapons as you wish is legal. There is no law that says only rifle or handgun. I've done both for many years. Another big problem we have is |
|
Just for the record, Illinois' main failing is Chicago. |
are you sick for mentioning that or am i sick for flashing back to memories of a donkey show? hmmmm |
Just for the record, Wisconsin's main failing is Madison. |
Evil Black Rifle. Yes, Wussconsin is full of sick, twisted fucks who are cabin-bound for 6 months out of the year. More bars and liquor stores than any other place I have visited. More liberals than Washington. And a bunch of cheese curd eating sick fucks. |
|
You obviously have never tasted beer battered deep fried cheese curds, otherwise you would truly appreciate them. ETA: Just heard the weather forecast calls for snow tommorow. I'm sick of summer, bring on the snow! |
BALDERDASH! I HAVE been to Krolls across the street from Lambeau Field! And I have eaten a butter burger with potato wedges, fried cheese curds and a Lienenkugel Red. There is a reason Kevin Smith used Wisconsin as the place where Bartleby and Loki were sent to for eternity as punsihment for their insubordination. Because Hell is bearable... |
|
I'm born, raised, and schooled in WI. WI has a lot over it's neighbors like MI and IL. I live in MI for work reasons; I'll compare WI against MI. WI has no pistol registration WI has affordable high quality state universities MI bans SBRs and suppressors, and until recently full-auto (Vote Cox!) WI doesn't have Detroit!! WI drivers can drive. WI roads are smooth WI auto insurance is affordable (no MCCA crap like in MI) and most importantly, WI doesn't have price fixing on booze and beer like MI! The CCW law in WI didn't get voted down, it got vetoed! Dump Doyle!! Is it the best place in the country? Perhaps not. Is it the worst place in the midwest? Definitely not! Don |
