I'm a bit of a movie buff, so when someone asks me this I sometimes get into a melodramatic rant (imagine that) and start listing a bunch which might make my top ten.
But given a gun-to-the-head choice, it always comes back to The Last of the Mohicans for me. That movie had it all. Great acting, cinematography, fight choreography, and a bit of romance. I thought the special effects of the mortar fire was handled quite well too. Then there is The Godfather, Casablanca, and as others have mentioned I LOVE Where Eagles Dare. Another somewhat ignored film of Eastwood's is The Igor Sanction. I LOVE that movie. I think Private Ryan makes it into the top ten. Ya probably have to throw the LOTR trilogy into the mix...I think. See? Melodramatic rant. But it all comes back to The Last of the Mohicans. |

Saving Pvt Ryan & PLATOON are my favorite war movies that were made recently
Tombstone.
It's not the kind of movie where I'd go "damn, that was awesome", but somehow I can watch it a billion times and not get tired of it. |
As a kid, without a doubt the favorite was
"The Day the Earth Stood Still". It used to be the feature on Saturday Night Chiller Theater once a year or so. Remember VCRs, DVDs and DVRs were not even imagined back then. Now, I have to go with "Saving Private Ryan". DanM |
