MAG FEED
|
|
save your money and buy a ruger mini 30
best battle rifle ever made |
|
SKS, without a doubt. accurate, realiable as hell, and cheap to feed. Im not sure how available mag fed SKS's are? But I know they are made because my first rifle was a mag feed chinese SKS paratropper.
If I were you, I would just step up and buy a SAR1 for about $300 |
|
SKS
(as a friend said once to a guy weighing joining the guard vice joining a pretty high speed USAR unit: "If everyone fucking tells you this place sucks and the reserve is better, shouldn't you believe it? We ain't got nothing to try to sell you.") |

Quoted: Quoted: save your money and buy a ruger mini 30 best battle rifle ever made View Quote I must concur. Get a mini 30 or go home!!! View Quote Ruger mini 30, and mini 14's have never seen battle. SKS is about as reliable as an AK47, and has seen plenty of it- with good reviews at that. Just get detatchable mag's for the SKS and your all set. Theyre just about as easy to come by as that of the mini-14 or 30. |

A used Winchester 30-30 mdl 94, tubular magazine fed, very reliable.

I love my Yugoslavian SKS, for $150 dollars, I got the never issued rifle in perfect condition. It also came with a tool kit, a brass oil tin with leather belt holder, leather ammo pouch, strap, and gear belt!! What a deal.

|
You can get a Yugo Mauser in As New condition from a C&R shop, with a bayonet, sling, and cleaning kit for about $160-170.

You can get a British enfield in 303 for $100.00 or even a Ishapore enfield in 308 for just alittle more, 10 round mag feed.

SKS does. Some people cannot afford to drop $450+ on every gun they buy. |

Some people, like myself, refuse to buy Ruger products because of Bill Rugers support for the 10rd mag limit.

If the Yugo SKS has a longer stock than my Chinese SKS, then that would definitely be the way to go... simple to disassemble and clean, quick to load with strippers, and 7.62x39 is dirt cheap... but still has good hunting loads available. The SKS or an Enfield will be about the only rifles to fit your requirements, unless you'd be satisfied feeding a Mauser with strippers.

10/22 $130 or so
30rnd mag $50-60 550 rounds of ammo $10 Cheap ammo and lots of aftermarket stuff out there. About the best value really. CH |
|
for 200.00 the sks is hard to beat. Personally i'd save another 2-300 and get a fal. 100 times the ruger and cheaper.
The sks is rock solid reliable and ammo is cheap. I am assuming you want a semi auto. Cetme Fal sks ak |
|
If you can find one for less than $200, a Swede Mauser M-96 in 6.5 Swede is an excellent, sexy little rifle.

Big difference between the SKS and the Ruger is the SKS will shoot where you point it, the Ruger is known for less than great accuracy.
The SKS is a military rifle, the Ruger is not. 5, 10, 20 round non-detachable mags, 30 round removable mags and 75 round drums can be had for the SKS as well. The stripper clip loading system works pretty good too. I have a Chinese, Russian, Romanian, Yugo and Albainian SKS in my private collection. All shoot great. A bit more accurate than my AK's IMHO. I also have 7 Albainian and 1 Yugo for sale, will ship to your FFL. Can get you a Ruger AC-556 (Mini 14 - machinegun) but you ain't gonna get THAT one for $200!!!! In the end, shoot both and decide which you like best. |
|
Depends on what you are going to use it for.
.22/target shooting = 10/22 ruger Hunting/High Power = SKS, or used AK |
|
joking aside,
i'd vote for the sks i picked up a few of the yugo sks rifles when aim had them on sale for 90 bucks each they shoot good enough for my crappy skills |
|
For a Semi-auto, I would go for the SKS, they are damm near failure-proof.
For a bolt gun go with the Mosin-Nagant M44 Carbine. I got mine for $50.00 and 330 rnds. for another $50.00 with Tax $115.00. It's accurate and Cheap. |
|
SKS is cheap. But I put a fiberforce stock on mine and accuracy went south, way south. I considered remounting the original wood but I bought an AR-15 and haven't seen my sks since.
cheap. sks. keep original stock. but, you could buy a bolt action Marlin 25n in .22 LR and put a $75 scope on it. I bought my kids one of these and it absolutely drives tacks. I love shooting it em em... I mean taking the kids out to shoot it. Ammo is much cheaper than even 7.62X39 |

SMLE in .308. I have one for sale for $150 and I will even throw in another box magazine. 10 rounds.
Sturdy, fast action and great accuracy. |

As far as I know, the Rugers have never seen action with US Troops. They have, however, been in scraps as the weapon of "para-military/security" troops. And having seen that, I'd stick with the SKS. SKS is a great choice, but so is the Saiga Sporter. Where else can you get a brand-new Russian-made AK rifle in the "true" 7.62 x 39 AK caliber for under $160?
|
|
Another vote for the SKS here and AIM is selling Albanian SKSs for $99.95!!!!!
I'd get one but I already have one and am saving for an AR10. |

For a bolt gun, I would look at either an M48 Yugo Mauser or a Finnish M39 in 7.62x54R. In both cases the ammo is cheap, and in the latter case you have a pretty accurate rifle.
