This cartoon was inspired by the following article:

www.iht.com/articles/2004/10/26/news/vote.html

Excerpted:

Judging from opinion polls, media reports and conversation on [the European] side of the Atlantic, the overwhelming sentiment on what would be bad for Europe is another four years with President George W. Bush. In Britain, France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands, Europeans appear to be united by an overwhelming antipathy toward Bush.

"He has the ability to provoke incredible animosity," said Alain Frachon, a senior editor at Le Monde, one of several French newspapers running extensive coverage of the American campaign. "And this gives us even more incentive to be interested in the U.S. election, because Bush is probably the least liked of all U.S. presidents since World War II."

[...]

European media are sending correspondents all over the United States in an effort to delve into the American psyche.

"We want to understand why so many people are still on Bush's side; it's a kind of mystery to us," said Peter Frey, Berlin bureau chief for ZDF television in Germany. "We are asking the American people, 'Why are you voting for Bush?' We want to understand why he has this support."

--

I think it's safe to say that they'll never understand it.

Hey, Europe?

Do the letters "FO" mean anything to you?

I"m getting REALLY fucking sick and tired of this horseshit. If the American media sent hoards of reporters over to find out why YOU are voting for a particular party or canidate we'd be crucified in a heartbeat for interfering with a sovereign nation, but how is if we raise any issues you'll probably yell for the UN to investigate the treatment of your reporters over here?

KISS MY ASS!

This just shows that Europe
cares a whole hell of a lot more
about us than we do about it
(read: not at all).

Hey Europe: it must suck to
be completely irrelevant...we
wouldn't know.

My brother-in-law was in England for a business meeting. He was the only American amongst people from various European countries.

They started discussing the US Presidential Election. ALL of the Europeans believe that they should be able to vote in the US election!!!!!

It couldn't be a better time to votr against their wishes. Fuck 'em!

Interested men, who are not to be trusted, weak men who CANNOT see, prejudiced men who will not see, and a certain set of moderate men who think better of the European world than it deserves; and this last class, by an ill-judged deliberation, will be the cause of more calamities to this Continent than all the other three

Rik, He did ask them and they said that their elections do not matter. The US influences the entire world, so the world should have control.

My BIL could not exactly get nasty with them because of the business at hand, but he said he told them that it would never happen.

Their elections don't matter because they have made so many bad choices they are no longer relevent. And so they want to make choices for us?

Plenty of Europeans DO have a vote in this election – The ones that had enough gumption to start a new life in America, that is....

As for the rest – Well, sorry, sheep aren't allowed to vote.

F**k Europe.

All of Europe, except the Brits, Poles, the Italians...don't forget our TRUE allies that are sacrificing alongside our troops.

Hey guys, I think we should be fair and let them vote in our elections. Since they have no members of Congress though I don't think we can give them even a base number of electoral votes though, so they can have a nice round number, like 0

Next time Germany decides it wants France, I say, fine. We won't interfere a third time. France and Germany deserve each other.
