I recently downgraded to vista and have ah nothing but problems with file access. I cannot open Itunes. I get a system message that said " Itunes is on a locked disk, you do not have  write access to it." I also get teh same sort of message when I try to access my pictures for edditing. Any one have any idea how to fix all of this?

shocking problems with vista OH say it isnt so

You are not having problems with Vista.  Vista is the problem.  The problem with iTunes is the result of a pissing match between Apple and Microsoft.  MS is accused of screwing with iTunes on Vista so that iPod users will switch to the MS Zune.

Edit...you can always get a mac and avoid the MS hassle.

I will never understand how so many people can accept the crap that is Windows and IE.

But I also feel the same way about network TV.

not really a matter of acceptance. unless I spent twice as much on a mac, I could not even buy my new computer with xp.

And *I* will never understand why I, and I alone, seem to be the only human on the planet who is pleased with and has had ZERO problems with Vista, or any other MS product, for that matter.  Just damned strange.

I wish I did for you.

Are you operating as the Admin?

As well, the message you are getting indicates to me that the new OS has moved iTunes onto a protected partition, so you may try diving into the OS and moving it to a different "drive".

Sorry bro, can't help.  I have read about your problem on a few forums.  It is fairly common and I haven't seen any solutions other than downgrading to XP.

Delete I tunes, turn your Ipod into a USB mass storage device, download the songs into it and upload to your new computer. Apple does not like your Itunes on multiple computers. I just updated myself to a new laptop it was slow and tedious getting software to jibe with Vista. For other software I would start with the oldest first all the way to the newest, download the updates. Real PITA

Are you in a position to un-install, save the things you are having problems with, re-installing, then installing the pics and iTunes "on top" of the OS?

You "downgraded", did you do a fresh install or did you install right on top of the existing OS? Check your permissions, Right click the folder then click Properties. Check the Security tab and make sure your Name is on the list.

Vista, XP, 2000, they all work like a champ. 99% of the problems are the user not understanding the hardware or software requirements.

So you bought a brand new computer with a fresh install of Vista?

Try going into Control Panel/User Accounts and checking to see if the account you use has Administrator acess.

ETA. Yeah I just googled your problem 99.999% sure the problem is with the user account you're using. You'll need to login as Administrator or use an account with Admin access and give the account your having problems with Administrator access.

ETA2

Once you get admin access you'll want to disable UAC.. thats the pop up that is always asking you "Are you sure you really want to do that?!?" Just try not to break anything afterwards.

Clcik the Orb (Start)/Run then type in MSCONFIG, hit enter

Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAP" (this should probably change to UAC in next Vista beta builds and in the RTM version). Click on that line.

Press the Launch button.

A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.

Close MSCONFIG. Then reboot.

Yea uninstall iTunes and download the latest version and pray, contrary to the bullshit you hear here this is a iTunes/Apple problem. iTunes is a cluster fuck with problems no matter what Windows OS you run.
