So, I bought a truck the other day and it has a viper system. At first I was like this is stupid and I'll probably just rip it out. Then I read up on it and realized I can remote start the truck and the FOB will notify me as long as I'm within a mile of the truck if someone breaks in. Now, to be honest, I don't think anyone would break in.
The real problem or question is if anyone knows if these systems cause radio interference? I haven't set up SIRIUS yes so, I've been listening to the radio and noticed every few minutes it cuts out and the display says, "AUX INPUT". I'm guessing it is the Viper system interfering, but I'm not certain. Anyone familiar with these systems? |

A properly installed alarm is pretty much dormant when the ignition is on. They have no need to monitor or transmit when the vehicle is being operated.
Depending on make model and year of vehicle the CAN bus interface can cause interesting issues but they are rare and unlikley. Hard to give diagnostic advice since you did not even bother to mention the make of the truck the year it was made the trim level |

The truck in question is a 2010 Sierra SLE Extended Cab 5.3L. For what its worth with the radio in regular FM mode it will randomly display "AUX INPUT Device". I can't actually change the radio channel when this happens. ETA: the alarm is a Viper SST 2-way |

Iirc most car alarms run around 300mhz, so it should not have any frequency interference with radio. Sounds like above or something similar with aux port wiring or possibly head unit issues.
Check for lock codes first and then it may be worth it to pull the fuse and/or disconnect the radio to see if a reset will help |

Do you have anything plugged into the aux port. Many are auto sensing so if a devise is turned on or off making sound it will automatically switch to that port. If nothing is plugged in the aux port then I agree some moisture or debris is in the port. Nothing plugged in. I have my cell phone in the truck, but it isn't plugged in. Actually, this morning it wasn't even plugged into the power outlet. |
