You guys are pretty good at finding solutions. My Mom has a 03 Escape. Has 65K miles and still in good shape. The damn key hets stuck in the ignition switch and doesn't release until you disconnect the battery.

What do I need to replace / adjust?

Thanks Sven for the reply.

I guess I should post what all I tried so far.

Truck goes into park. It's column mounted.

Checked for obstructions.........none found.

Key cylinder replaced...........same issue.

Tried moving steering wheel around / jiggling key. Stays lock in until power is off.

I had an '03 Escape that would do that every once in awhile.

I found taking the shift lever and slamming it into park would free the key up.

Is it one of those keys with the chip or resistor in it?

You're doing it wrong.

Pro tip. Don't throw the key into the intake manifold.

Just guessing here because I'm not a mechanic, but if the key comes out when you disconnect the battery it's being held in right?  The only mechanism I am aware of that would do that are going to be the shift position sensor.

I've had the steering wheel lock cause my key to get stuck in my Durango, but that's a mechanical deal that shouldn't be affected by the battery. ETA: It also jammed the shifter.

Check this:

It is a transponder key but not a chip / resistor type key like GM passlock.

I wouldn't worry about it.  Just remove a tire when you park it and no one can steal it.
