Okay, I utilize a X300 WML on my G19 for the obvious reason but also for a less obvious one - a pseudo standoff device. Past experience has shown that WMLs utilized this way accrue permanent damage from powder burns. I'm thinking that I might be able to negate this by using cheap, replaceable static screen protectors on the crystal, i.e., cell phone protectors cut-to-fit. They probably won't last too long and won't do anything to protect the housing but as long as it saves the crystal then I would consider it worthwhile.
Seems doable but have to wait till I get back in town to try it out. |

Kind of defeats the purpose of having a WML. Quoted:

You talking about when training or whatnot? Just put some masking tape over the lens. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a WML. You shooting with it turned on all the time? This is very simple... if you're using it mounted when training (and you don't need to have the light turned on) then protect it with a little masking tape. If you're actually needing the light to be turned on then just deal with the fact that the lens gets dirty. |

OP FAIL 1..X300 is not a lens. It is an Optic. (like a big squid eye) It projects the beam. It's collimating optic is like 3cm at least in thickness 2. X300 is tough as shit. 3. X300 has lifetime warranty. Surefire replaces flashlights that take incoming bullets, with new lights. 4. Scotch tape makes cleanup a breeze. |

I'm talking about using static screen protectors as sacrificial protectors for the light's crystal. Avoid the etching and hazing that occurs on the crystal from shooting. Nothing more. Could be simple fix that may have some merit. |

It serves as a standoff device to aid in preventing an intentional (or unintentional) out-of-battery condition. |
