Thanks for this.

Of course, I doubt anyone near me would know what in the hell I was trying to say with an upside down flag.

I have more faith in our country and the people in it. I guarantee for example they are not ignoring these Tea Parties. Obama may be the most socialist guy this side of Marx but the beauty of our country is politicians like him are politicians first idealist a distant second. With the right pressure I guarantee Obama would be to the right of Limbaugh if he thought that is what was needed to get reelected.

Over the top symbolism like using our flag in a way that it was not intended to be used is easily dismissed by people like Obama. Well thought out and organized "loyal opposition" is not easily ignored or discounted.

Screaming fuck Obama is not going to do anything. Organizing and using our system as it is designed has a better chance.

Yup... people who have the "Oh, well, their guy won fair and square this year... good game guys! We'll get you next time, though!" are involved in politics like they are involved in an athletic sport. It is a game... They root for their favorite team, if they win, they cheer, if they lose, they go home sad and try harder next time.

Those of us that care about this, and are not just playing a game, don't see Barry as a "temporary inconvenience".... He has totally disregarded the Constitution. He is not worthy of the title of President. He is a SERIOUS threat to our life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. He is a serious threat to the Constitution.

If you don't respect the Constitution, I'm not going to acknowledge you with a title bestowed by the Constitution. That is that. Barry is Barry...

The "Oh, well" attitude doesn't make you mature and level headed or a fair player.... it shows that you are just a sheep playing the political game, with no real comprehension of it.

And it still wasn't good enough.

We'll never fix what ails us with many of the things we do or fail to do. We got to get better at using our system than the liberals. Folks need to start understanding that is as much our failure as it is their success and we are only doomed if we fail to mobilize and fix this shit.

Millions of people who voted for Obama did so because they felt betrayed by the GOP or the government in general. And we should be doing everything in our power to ensure they realize that while they have voted him in they need to look at what he is doing and correct that error next election.

I like this post and I like you...  You're damn right.   I don't fly the flag upside down though (I'm guessing you don't either).  It is my personal opinion that the flag is ours, not necessarily the politicians.  If he wants to shit all over the constitution this is STILL my country, my constitution, my flag and I'm keeping them.  Nothing will stop me from being proud of what this country was meant to be and what a small minority fight to make it.  I will not denounce my proud title of American, I will denounce you (the figurative you) as being an American in name and papers only and nothing so good or honorable as the word means to me and you(now the literal you).  Does that make sense?

In order to fly the flag upside down, you first must have one.  An avatar costs twenty four bucks and let's face it, gets limited viewing.  I can sympathize with those who fly the international sign of distress, as an avatar or ensign.  I have a large flag flying 24/7 from a well light pole on the house.  I've been very tempted to fly it upside down a few times myself, but not yet.  Not just yet.

NEWS FLASH:  The Captain and the Pirates are in the life boat ... WTFO?

Is anyone going to attend the Tax Tea Parties on the 15th?  Sounds like many disgruntled folks are going to attend, or are these people to be considered petulant children too?

Aside from the comments about people playing the political game if you replaced Obama with Bush or used the word conservative instead of Obama you'd have 95% of the posts on forums like DU and Daily Kos comments etc.

How is it two diametrically opposed groups say the same exact same shit? Disregarding the constitution, serious threat to our life liberty and pursuit of happiness they said it every single day.

And how is it that these two groups claim all this gloom and doom yet the most they can muster up is angry posts on a forum.

I don't think there is anything fair or level about politics. I just understand that hysteria and dramatic content thrown around by both sides doesn't do shit to benefit this country.

Unfortunately the biggest difference is they actually got out there did something about it and whipped our asses the last election and the congressional election before that.

Somehow I don't think upside down flag avatars or calling him Barry or refusing to acknowledge him as President is going to help us in 2012.

We better pull our collective heads out of our asses and figure something out quick because bitching on a forum ain't gonna mean shit.

I don't think hating the current president is ever reaching the level that would justifying improperly using our flag that many of us have fought under.

If Obama and company were to REALLY become oppressive enough to warrant using the flag as "signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property" than I would hope that far stronger actions were taking place than just flying the flag upside down.

In other words if we are going to treat our flag with respect and use it as intended than we better damn sure be fighting for it not just playing grabass. To do otherwise in my opinion is highly disrespectful to our country's flag.

At what point?

Maybe when you face a threat to your life or property?  The drama here gets a bit much, sometimes.

If the only reason you know you are "threatened" is by watching the news, you aren't "threatened."

Ask yourself, would someone seeing your flag and coming to your aid improve the situation you are in?  If not, you are not facing extreme danger worthy of flying the flag upside down.

Yeah, and some people call burning the flag "freedom of speech", too.  Doesn't make it right.

Fact is, there are certain conditions codified into law that prescribe when the flag may be flown upside down.  As much as anyone might not like the current political leaders, we have not reached those conditions.  Anyone flying the flag upside down right now is being overly dramatic, and disrespectful to boot.

Excellent post.  The modern limited government movement really began with Barry Goldwater's Conscience of a Conservative and his subsequent run from President.  After being trounced it took sixteen years for those ideas to gain ascendency in the GOP.  The hard work of people like Ronald Reagan resulted in his election as President in 1980.  (NOTE:  Nixon was not a conservative or limited government guy.)

Unfortunately he had to deal with a Democratic congress for his entire Presidency - it took two years of a Clinton Presidency we had the Contract with America and a GOP Congress - and then nothing.  They spent their time chasing Clinton chasing skirt.  Pointless.

And GWB was not a conservative limited government guy - "compassionate conservative?"  WTF is that?

We have no one to blame but ourselves.

The hatred of America is so great that it necessitates the flag being flown upside down?

If you observed a Mexican or an Arab doing it, you would scream for the person to be hung. But, here we are complaining about the situation and disrespecting the flag in the process. (you=GD)

The freedom of speech claim is great, but the choice of common sense is the one that is being neglected. The left wing liberal tree huggers fell the same way about the govt. and I would expect it from them. The right wing or libertarians are truly a disappointment.

And its not even about the country - flying the flag upside down is supposed to be about the person or group flying it.  By turning it into a political statement, it has all but lost its ability to truly signal an emergency.

What's next randomly setting off fire alarms to protest?

Calling 911 and saying "the country is in peril" when they ask your emergency?

Drama queens, indeed.

Edited your post in this reply to flow a little more smoothly.

That done, let's analyze the events of the last few months, shall we?

BHO goes on "The great apology tour" - a posture which shows weakness in the international arena.

The BHOA (Administration) agrees to "pre-conditionless negotiation" with IRN, which, combined with other indicators, causes ISR to state that if we won't deal with IRN, they will.

NK (DPRK) launches a ballistic missile, and increases rhetoric about it's "sovereign right" to continue nuclear development

BHO/A support a blatantly unconstitutional 90% post facto tax on lawfully obtained income, and with hordes of protesters threatening violence, at least one state AG threatens to make the names and addreses of recipients of those funds public.

BHO/A promote one of the largest socialist agendas (in the form of government work projects) since the '30's.

The market nose dives, resulting in huge paper losses (because a loss or profit isn't actualized until the commodity is transferred) for most Americans, but also in huge real losses for corporations that had (foolishly) borrowed against those paper assets, resulting in real debt, and real problems if the borrowing was done to cover normal expenses.

BHO, a candidate running on a class warfare platform, who once stated that "The Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society", and was quoted as saying "I don't believe that people should be able to own guns" is elected, largely (it is argued) because of promises of establishing government programs that most experts state cannot be supported by the revenue streams he proposes.

The Democratic led Congress turns a blind eye to numerous warnings concerning the artificial housing market... when the piper comes calling, they cannot pay, and the dance crashes to a halt.

SCOTUS rules that private property is private only insofar as the community you live in doesn't want it.

Obviously not all of these things are the direct product of the election assumption of BHO - it's just that it seems to be drawing closer and closer to the "last straw" for a lot of folks.

Personally, I chose to fly the Gadsden.

Yep our flag is not a toy to be used to announce your displeasure with a temporary elected official.

Methinks you assume too much.

But I agree, the upside-down flag shouldn't be used this way.

Really??

The hatred of America is so great that it necessitates the flag being flown upside down?

If you observed a Mexican or an Arab doing it, you would scream for the person to be hung. But, here we are complaining about the situation and disrespecting the flag in the process. (you=GD)

The freedom of speech claim is great, but the choice of common sense is the one that is being neglected. The left wing liberal tree huggers fell the same way about the govt. and I would expect it from them. The right wing or libertarians are truly a disappointment.

Who there Buford. You started this thread with a question. It gets answered, then you post this inane shit.

So you are saying if someone is flying an upside down flag for an avatar, they HATE THE COUNTRY? That is quite a stretch. Dumb fucking statement. I took down my flag at home. I'm flying a Gadsden now. Does that mean I hate the country also.

To say our country is at this point "except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property." is a far fetch from reality. To twist the current political situation into saying the country is in extreme danger shows hatred...... or do you feel otherwise?

Yes I do feel otherwise. I believe the country is in extreme danger. We have a rabid socialist in the White house. If you are a conservative. How the hell could you think we are not. Crippling defence cuts, Radical cabinet appointments, Kissing the asses of our enemies, offending our allies, rampant spending. Yea, I say things are bad.

I surely don't hate my country. But I have nothing but destine for the CIC. Fortunately I've been out of the Military since 1972, so I don't have to like him, or serve under him.

I made it through the Carter years. I hope to make it through this guys term.

So you are saying if someone is flying an upside down flag for an avatar, they HATE THE COUNTRY? That is quite a streach. Dumb fucking statement. I took down my flag at home. I'm flying a Gadsden now. Does that mean I hate the country also.

Remember this thread is about AVATARS. Not people doing it at home in public. If you think the guys here that have avatars like that, fine. I don't know them, maybe they are.

I just said the OP made a stupid statement saying they hated the country. It's their little protest, I guess. So what.

It was originally about avatars, but the discussion moved to flying them as well.  This is to what my comments were directed.

I can except that. I wouldn't do it at home either. I missed where It got off tangent to flying flags in public like that. We're good then IHO.
