Just another day in a Middle Eastern paradise. I'm so glad our Administration has this under control.
I'm sure there's no way it will go like Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Libya, or Yemen...
Bahrain police arrest 3 after capital firefight
Bahraini authorities have arrested three suspects after a firefight in the capital Manama broke out close to US Navy offices, the interior ministry announced Friday. The trio "resisted police and fired live rounds" at officers on Thursday in the city's busy Juffair district, said a ministry statement published by the official Bahrain News Agency. The suspects were wanted on "security-related" charges, it said. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/afp/article-2993058/Bahrain-police-arrest-3-capital-firefight.html |

The king of Bahrain will throw you in prison for months if you insult him in a tweet. Fuck his regime.

Is it a bad idea for a 25 year old white dude to walk to the KFC or McDonalds in this part of the world in jeans, neon new balences, and an art15 t-shit alone?
My chicken mcmuffin was good and I felt endangered only a few times... Snarky comments aside, why dont you tell us about the area? No big deal, I take it? |

It has some nice areas and some Islamic shit areas. Stay in the nice areas and you're fine. They're not pissed at Americans. I've been drunk at Sherlock Holmes in the Gulf more times than I care to admit. It's no Dubai for sure. |
| Oh wow I spent much of 2013 right around the corner from there. Most of the time there was "civil unrest" it was on the Juffair side of town, Manama was fairly quiet due to the high number of USN personal. I've seen some interesting things there, but Bahrain is the last place I expected to see a fire fight. |

My chicken mcmuffin was good and I felt endangered only a few times... Snarky comments aside, why dont you tell us about the area? No big deal, I take it? I got some weird looks, some stare downs, Paki expats tend to want to try out their English, Indians smile too hard and can be creepy-nice, Afgans don't like you if they know you are American, Somali looking dudes make me glad I don't have a ship with me, older generation men have grumbled loudly at me and I am certain it wasn't nice or well wishing, kids all seem awesome, mid-twenties guys guys have blocked my way and some have not been happy about my presence, and tinder doesn't work well here either. Then a huge number of the people just don't care or just wonder why whitie is just strolling. The super rich pretend not to notice but secretly enjoy when I look at their opulence. I have had a few times this week where I knew I was about to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and fast walked around a corner or dissapeared inside a busy shop. Today a land cruiser with uber sketchy guys noticed I was alone, came around the block, braked right in front of me, all but driver got out and toward me like pack animals and I 180ed and took off around an alley and off to McDonalds. Situational awareness is good but I can tell I'm playing the odds. I was reminded I need to stay with our security and vehicles. |
