For those of you who may be a little slow:
The point of [i]UC[/i] is to give you a history of gun control in this country from a point of view that you can relate to. This is done over a background of years, with gradual changes so that nothing is too shocking.
Then, a character who was absent through all of this suddenly finds himself subject to 30 years worth of laws he knew nothing about, all at once. And the reality is almost overwhelming.
Yes, the characters are FICTIONAL, and as in most novels, exaggerated. Sherlock Holmes or James Bond mean anything to you?
The idea is to write an entertaining FICTIONAL story that incorporated REAL US HISTORY, and to present it in such a way that you really *understand* what freedoms we've allowed to be taken from us, and how.
It may not be a "classic", but it is head and shoulders above the trash that most folks read, and it can actually teach folks a bit about their country's history (assuming the US is your country).
