I didn't know this...

In 1986, the United States was found guilty by the World Court of “unlawful use of violence” (international terrorism) for its actions in Nicaragua. The United States then promptly vetoed a Security Council resolution calling on all states to adhere to international law.

That's very humorous.  When we caused communist bastards trouble, the UN whines.  When the PLO blows up children, they act as if it didn't happen.

As i recall, the UN Resolutions were not the founding documents of this country.

Therefore, the UN and all its associates can stick any document we've signed right up their ass as far as I'm concerned.

"We're sorry. As a symbol of our regret, we'll ban the further manufacture of machineguns for our civilians. Surely that will end this unlawful use of violence."

Are you serious?

You'd make good friends with those who compare Bush to Hitler.

Yes, I'm serious.  Isn't that essentially what Saddam said to the UN in both 1989 and 2002?

This whole UN thing works both ways.  We use the UN to keep third-world dictators in their place, and they use the UN to counteract our power.

Not from what I have seen.  As Saddam demonstrated every chance he got, the UN has very power or effect unless the US ponies up with our military.

No the UN acts in one way… Anti-American.

The UN never acts for Anybody’s good UNLESS the US drags them in kicking and screaming against their will.

This is the same UN that gives or has given in the recent past Libya, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, Viet Nam, ect.  seats on the UN Commission on human rights (just a few of many states on that commission that don’t know what human rights are).

You are either very young or very uneducated. That is among one of the more misinformed and downright stupid remarks of the year.

Whoa, whoa there bucko.  I was just pointing out the gamesmanship of UN politics - I certainly wasn't defending their ludicrous actions.  In fact, I'll agree with you on their incompetence and impotence.

However, when the UN does something blatantly anti-American, we all cry "We will not give up our sovereignty to the UN!"

When the UN sanctioned Saddam for his imperialism, he cried "We will not give up our sovereignty to the UN!"

How many times has Israel been sanctioned for something?  How about any of the murderous African nations?  What was their response?  I'll bet it was, "We will not give up our sovereignty to the UN!"

To me it's just tit for tat, quid pro quo, making the UN unworkable.

Plus, I'm not young anymore.

Then very uneducated...

The UN is not nor ever has been "workable" and never will be.
