Yup, that's the kicker; select areas.

They should be able to tell you what zip codes they will deliver to on Saturdays.

Don't be surprised that they will deliver to the far side of the county, but not a mile away from the hub.

edit to add: Yes, you pay extra for this service.

As stated above "Next Day" means next business day. If it was shipped next day on Friday, then Monday is the delivery date. Because of the holiday on Monday, Tuesday is the next business day. "Next Day Saturday"" is offered at an extra cost because UPS does not run regular deliveries on Saturday.

Be glad you didn't send it USPS. They don't have to work Tuesday either.

funny.

I would check into USPS next time. Seems they are are on par with UPS' delivery speed, often cost less, and IMHO, don't beat up the packages.

But maybe I have an unusually well-run post office here.

ITs all a scam! I ground shipping and ordered something from petco.com on 12/19 and got the package on 12/21. I decided i wanted another one for a xmas gift and placed the second order on 12/21 i decided to use 2 day fedex shipping instead, i got the package on 12/27.(fuckers) Petco "claimed fedex dosnt delivery on saturday and with their 48 hours processing time that i should have known it would take 6 days to delivery using 2 day shipping. They also refused to refund my extra shipping costs. Too bad i get fedex deliverys on SATURDAY all the fricking time! Moral of the story, don't use expedited shipping services unless you want to get dicked over by "processing" and other bs/.

Next day air packages are also delivered on Saturdays. Your package is probably under a belt or lodged behind

something. I worked a seasonal job at UPS and its almost impossible not to lose and break packages. When you open

the door to the semi trailer shit falls out all over you and the floor. It's pretty hectic this time of year too.

I've never figured-out how UPS counts days. About once a week I order something three day UPS from Newegg.com in Ontario, CA, and it always takes at least a week. Interesting how they can define a week as three days. We ship a lot of packages two day UPS to Colorado for a customer. It isn't uncommon for them to take a week. For $99.10 each(!), it looks like UPS could get them there on time consistently.z

I have a package that was sent to me UPS second day air.
I ordered it on a Thu, on the following Wed is was scheduled for delivery, The weekend and Christmas.

It was in transit on Sunday and Monday, and it was at the local UPS hub on Tue.
UPS didn't attempt an early delivery, and they were not able to find the correct address.

They have attempted redelivery twice, and because UPS is fucked up they can't get my address right.
It's now scheduled for a Jan 2 delivery, but with that being President Fords day of mourning.......

UPS was closed the day after thanksgiving, I couldn't even pick my packages up.

"Express mail" which is the guaranteed service that competes with "Next Day Air" service from UPS WILL BE DELIVERED ON TUESDAY DESPITE IT BEING A FEDERAL HOLIDAY.

While there is no mail delivery tomorrow for standard mail, Express Mail is still going to be delivered.

FWIW, we process mail 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Today is the 20th day in a row that I have worked. Your mail never stops--even on days when there is no mail delivery. I'm not sure the same can be said for UPS, but I really don't know.

God only knows. I had to spend a lot of extra nights on the road this past year becasue UPS next day delivery wasn't.

I avoid UPS at every opportunity.

When I had my knife shipped from DLT Trading (UP of Michigan), I had them ship USPS.

In answer to your question - I’ve found that I don’t understand anything UPS says.

UPS: It says here you signed for the pkg.
Me: No I didn’t, and I don’t have the pkg.
UPS: Says here you did/do.

2 wks later

Me: Why did you deliver my pkg to the neighbor, then log it in that I signed for it?
UPS: It says here we left you a note, telling you the neighbor had the pkg.
Me: I never got the note.
UPS: We left you one.
Me: Why did you tell me 2 weeks ago that I signed for the pkg, now you’re telling me you gave it to the neighbor and left me a note.
UPS: We do this all the time, it's perfectly legal, blah blah blah.

That is what happened to the Christmas gift Wiggy762 sent me a few years ago.

I avoid UPS at every opportunity - or did I already say that?

For the standard ground package the arrival scan on New Years eve is when it arrived at the rail yard in Phoenix.

The Departure Scan is when the Feeder(Semi Truck) Driver picked up the load and left the Phoenix rail yard to take it to Tempe.

If it is on the Rail it moves on Holidays.

For Next Day Air Purposes it means Next Business Day.

We do deliver on Saturdays but you need to request Saturday Next DAy Air Service.

I am a UPS Package Car Driver any more questions?

UPS is working today but I am not!

You sure that this is not just a question of shifts?

The Saturday night shift could have processed the 12/31 entry at the end of their shift while the Tuesday morning shift could have processed the 1/1 entry at the beginning of their shift.

So basically you're saying "Next Day Delivery" (which costs 4 times as much) means you will sit on it for three days while "Standard Delivery" means you will work Sundays and even Holidays to deliver it.

Mmkay. Makes perfect sense to me.

I had a similar problem last year and called UPS when the tracking info showed it had been delivered already. The customer service rep said "You sound like you're smarter than the average person so I can tell you that the arrival departure scan times are not real, they are computer generated ESTIMATIONS based on where the package is going and don't reflect actual scans of the package". WTF? Why have a place to check them if they aren't actual. I found this hard to believe. Can anyone confirm?

Because a most of the Feeder Drivers work nights there work week starts on Sunday night or Monday night depending on what they do.

So that is why the Departure scan is on New Years Day at 8:00 or what ever it was.

With the Holiday on Monday Next Business day servie for something shipped on Friday would be today, it really is not that complicated.

KBAD,
That is partially true. A scan of the package does not take place, the package is scanned when it is loaded in the Trailer and when that Trailer arrives at the Destination, the Trailer is scanned and that gives you the arrival scan.

I ordered something for work one time and it was shipped FedEx Ground. They sent me a postcard telling me that our address didn't exist and to call them. Huh? I called them and asked them 1) why did they mail a notice to an address they said did not exist and 2) what do they think about the Postal Service delivering the postcard? They had no clue, so I cancelled the order and re-ordered with someone who used either UPS or USPS.

UPS takes the following holidays off.
New Years Day
Memorial Day
July 4th
Labor Day
Thanksgiving and the day after
Christmas Day

You are the perfect example of a Last Minute Customer who gets pissed off because he cannot ship something from Texas to NY because of poor planning and blames your poor planning on UPS.

Look, I wouldn't have any problem if the service was called "Next Business Day Delivery" - but it's not.

It's called "Next Day Service".

It's just bullshit to hide the very simple word "business" in the fine print.

If UPS means "Next Business Day" then just CALL it that.

And it's even more bullshit to have Standard Service packages continue to be moved on Sundays and Holidays but not higher-priced orders.

LOL all of you guys suck, I've never had a problem with FedEx or UPS. I've had some minor problems with the USPS but nothing to bad.

I love all you carriers who bring me my goodies quickly, and not damaged! Thanks!

Especially my UPS guy who hides a 16 pound box under the rug on my porch LOL! Like that really hides it but w/e it's funny.

AYE! My kiddos didn't get their Christmas presents from Grandma, still haven't, and she doesn't have them either. Apparently, so UPS says, the package arrived in Denver the day of the first Blizzard. They labeled it undeliverable, couldn't find the address, and sent it back to Tx. That was Wednesday before Christmas. So where the flip is it now?

I'll chime in on the UPS beefs.

1) You CANNOT reschedule a package delivery, once it is in transit. Twice, I have attempted to do this, because I knew I would be out of town on the scheduled delivery day. In both instances, UPS blithely attempted delivery when I wasn't home, resulting in me having to go pick it up at their depot when I returned.

I called UPS to ask what was going on after it happened a second time. They insisted I had to use their Web page to change the delivery date. The web page I used, which DIDN'T WORK! Still haven't heard a satisfactory explanation on this one.

2) I'm almost never home when UPS attempts delivery. I can hardly count the number of times I have had to drive to and from UPS's depot, on an obscure little street halfway across town to get my stinkin' package, which I paid to have delivered to my house. Occasionally, UPS attempts delivery after 5pm, in which case I am usually home.

I've got a possible fix for this one, fortunately. There's a UPS Store just around the corner from my house. They're open until 6:30pm weeknights, so I think I will start having future shipments - maybe my mail also - sent there, as long as they don't require my signature. It would be no big deal to stop by there on the way home to get my stuff.

FedEx service was mostly good when I lived in Lompoc, CA a couple of years ago. Any order shipped from a Los Angeles-area business - including several packages from Newegg.com - was usually a next-day delivery, when I only paid for regular ground service.

The one huge screwup FedEx made was leaving a gun back from factory repair under the doormat (!) at the apartment where I lived in CA. "Adult signature required" really means "we'll leave it poorly hidden if you're not home when we come by." Any yahoo could have walked off with my firearm.

OK, enough of my ramblings.
