I am watching the Ultimate Fighter and in one of the matches a fighter was penalized for up-kicking to the face. In UFC fights, I have never seen a penalty for up-kicking to the head or face. But Dana White, Forrest and Quinton were saying at ring side that it was against UFC rules. I went to the UFC website and read the rules. It says nothing about up-kicking. What gives? |
UFC doesn't make the rules, you need to check the athletic commission's website for whatever state it was in. I was not aware upkicks were illegal either. I thought you just couldn't kick a downed opponent. p.s. - CBS will have some great fights tonight, including everyone's favorite thug, Kimbo. |
| As far as I can remember it's legal. I know that you cannot kick/knee a downed opponent to the face or anything (except legs, I think those are fair game), but to me it sounds like one guy was on his feet and the other on his back. The one on his back doing the kicking. Not sure what to tell you there. |

The rules on the UFC website are very clear that it is illegal to knee or kick a downed opponent in the head or face, but they don't say anything about kicking up from your back to an opponents head. I know I have seen it allowed in the Octagon, so that's why I surprised that it wasn't allowed in the Ultimate Fighter. |
Ahhhh, that makes sense. |
