I have one.   Girlfriend goes to Emory, it gets to see some use at the formal events at the school.  I also like going to see the opera and plays at the Fox theater.

I have one.  It doesn't currently fit, but is dry cleaned and waiting for me to shed the extra tonnage.

1 tux and a 3-piece suit.  The rest are dockers (and some t-shirts)

i bought it while my GF was in lawschool to go to all of her functions. but i wear it a few times a year and it beats the hell out of renting one. i'll be straping it on in a little while to go to dinner. dinner is suposed to be formal but not black tie, but it's new years eve; why the hell not?

Yes.

Well, mine has some wings, rank, and medals that go on it.  Had it for two years now, and I've worn it three times.

1 tuxedo, 1 morning coat w/ striped trousers, 2 ill-fitting suits, and 2 ill-fitting blazers.

You can imagine what sees more use.

I've owned one for several years.  We like to go on cruises a few times a year and they always have from 2-4 formal nights, plus around here I go to a few dinners a year with black tie required.  I also own a white dinner jacket, so a few colored bow ties and I've got a lot of outfits from the same basic Tux.

You can buy a decent tux for $300 or so, shirts, shoes, ties etc. another $200.  White wool dinner jacket $175 or so, and it's really not any more expensive than a decent suit.

Always reminds me of "Young Frankenstein"   Puttin' On The Ritz.

I could have bought two or three with what I've paid for rentals over the last 15 years.

No, but I'll be buying dress blues soon since I'm getting my blood stripe.  I think they look better than tuxes, especially w/ the sword

Have one also...doesn't see much use, but nice to have it around when it is needed.

A good investment if you get a simple design and basic add ons (shirt, shoes, tie, etc.).

I own one that I used alot at the Oscars, Grammys and other black-tie events, but since I no longer do that kind of work and have gained some weight it no longer fits.

I have morning wear as well.  Too bad no one on this continent wears it anymore

Been thinking of getting a stroller jacket, which is a little more useable.  Reagan wore one to his first inauguration.

+1 to buying your dinner jacket and trousers.  If you wear it ~3 times you save money, and look better too.  Just make sure to get a timeless design (peak or shawl lapel, 1 button) and not some 5 button monstrosity.

If you buy it on ebay you'll pay less than one rental.

Sorry gent's, but I would never care to live my life where a Tuxedo would EVER need to be part of my attire.

Formal affairs generally cause vommit to spew forth from my mouth.

Yes, I've have inserted my otherwise clean body into exactly two, countem two Tux's in my life.

Nope, I'm sorry, make that one, countem one Tux in my life.  Best man at a wedding.

A Tux will never again drape over these bones, unless my wife plays a cruel joke whilst I take my dirt nap.

Yup.  Worn at least once/year.  It's the only way to remotely look as good as my wife.

I really need to buy a PPK.

I've got one. Actually it has more than paid for itself. Bought it for my wedding and have worn it enough times since to recoup the cost compared to rentals. I've even let my brother wear it saving him some cash!

I bought me one this year.  Got to wear it 3 times so far.
