Do any of you own or have used one...and if so, would you recommend them?

Yes, it definitely should have lasted longer than that.  To be honest, I have read a ton of reviews and their really aren't to many people that have problems with them failing.

I used to have one, but it got stepped on and broke, IIRC.

I really liked it though.  You hear so much more of the game that normally just gets drowned out by other noise in the room.

This!

I had the P21's, and it was amazing how much you could hear.  I've lost count of the times I got kills or avoided being killed, from hearing footsteps around me.  It really comes in handy during HC: S&D when your the last alive on your team vs. the last guy on the other team and he doesn't have Ninja Pro.  It sounds like a horse running around from his footsteps.

I've had people say I was "cheating" with an aimbot or something, because I would hear the enemy coming, and ADS at the area he sounds like he's coming from and drop him as soon as he rounds the corner.

Also, during S&D when you die and are spectating a teammate, I can hear things they can't hear if they aren't wearing a headset.  I'll be thinking "TURN AROUND, HE'S RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!!!!".

I have the X41's. I have never had a problem with them. I love my Turtle Beach. Out of the two you listed, I would say get the X31's. You won't be sorry.

How much do they cost? Do they give you a directional advantage (stereo sound so you can tell where the sound is coming from?)

Not sure on the price of the models listed, but the TB P21's I had were about $70 (they're wired, just FYI)........and yes, they do provide directional advantage.  Honestly, it's amazing what you can hear with a headset.  I actually heard a knife-fail right behind me (you can hear the "woooosh") when an enemy missed me and I turned around and was able to knife him.

I got a set today for 69 bucks. I'll be testing them out later tonight. Report to follow.

Report:
The sound quality is really good and the headset is really comfortable. You definately have a bit of an advantage because you
can hear things directionally. 70 dollars well spent.
