| I have a couple questions for those of you who carry a trunk gun. First, what do you keep in the trunk? And second, how is it secured? |
Under a deck? That doesnt mean anything to me. |
| The trunk of my car has a carpeted floor that lifts up to access the spare, jack, tools, etc. I simply used come pieces of 2x4 to raise this floor up a couple of inches to allow for some hidden goodies. The weapon that is sometimes carried there is secured by 3 velcro straps. Typically it is a Remington 870 Wingmaster Police model. The gun sports a Knoxx Copstock folder and a Surefire 618 fore end. I also keep a home made device that carries 15 more shells and quickly attaches to my belt with the gun. Total ammo: 15 rounds Winchester #1 buck, 3 rounds 1.25 oz slugs, 3 rounds impact distraction. |
| Once I move to an area where it's feasable for me to do so, I was thinking either my Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 or one of my M1 Carbines would draw trunk gun duties...both are about the same size (though if I use my repro M1A1 folder, that shortens a lot). .45-70 will take down anything in my path, but it's ballistics seem weird to me; I need to dope it out first.. |

I built a deck that covers the foot well areas bhind the front seats of my Toyota Xtra cab pick-up. This deck allows me to store the shotgun on the floor of the cab, out of sight and still within easy reach. I can open my door and reach under the deck via the space between the front seat and the rear area. Any other questions? |
Nope, sounds pretty cool! |
| Currently I also have a Springfield Armory M6 Scout in the storage area under the rear seats. When it's folded in half, it fits perfectly next to the tire changing tools. There are two cubby holes in the rear area next to the seats under the rear windows that I keep a first aid kit in the drivers side...and extra ammo in the passenger's side. |
Sounds like an awesome setup. Got any pics? |

Glock in a simplex lock box in armrest. Sometimes I put an AR broken down in a toolbox with a padlock on it that also attaches to a bicycle cable that wraps around a strut in my vehicle (as it has no trunk to lock it in). It's hard to envision the situation where I really need more than the 45 rounds of .40 ammo (pistol + 2 spare mags) in the simplex, plus the 7 rds of 9mm in my pcket (Kahr PM9), but you know, what the hey. groups.msn.com/TheMarylandAR15ShootersSite/useatoolboxasam4case.msnw |
I think Im going to have to buy my Uncle's Saiga for that very purpose. He doesnt really use it anyway. |

Mossberg 500, 18.5" bbl... Right now it's in a soft-case, but I'd preferr to find a way to hang it from the hatch-cover in my trunk (Camaros have a carpet-covered plastic 'flap' that separates the hatch area from the trunk when 'up', and folds down to allow the trunk to spill into the hatch. Ideally, some sort of S-bracket would allow the gun to hang against the underside of the hatch-cover, accessable quickly when the hatch lid is released... |

Only if they ask. If they can't see it, and I can't access it from my seat, and it's unloaded, and cased...I'm in the clear. Sept 15 will find me with a new "truck" gun. I will be assembling my 16" CAR complete with telescoping stock and flash supressor and bayo lug. That will be my SHTF/truck/get home gun. Complete with three 30 rd mags in the pocket of the soft gun case. |
I don't anymore , but I used to be real stupid . I had a Ranger with a over head rack .I kept a Mossburg 500 , and a tricked out SKS up there and 1911 in the glove box . I also had about $2k in stero stuff in it and never locked my doors . Than again I live in Kodiak .......

I used to keep a Mini14 with a few magazines in my trunk, but after leaving in there for a summer (hot, humid summer in Savannah, GA), the bolt had seized up. I had to tap it with a rubber hammer to dislodge it. Everything is fine with it now, but I realized that if I were in a SHTF situation, I would have been FUBARed. Now I just keep a Steyr M-40 in my cab. Once I get a Streetsweeper 12 (counting on the AWB being lifted) and make that my indoor security gun, I'll put my Mossberg 500 in the trunk and see what happens. |

I have heard of people with 60-40 bench seats in their extended cab trucks screwing 2 velcro 1'' x 6''long pieces in the center, on the bottom of the 60 side. Point the bbl away from the driver and strap it in. Run a zip screw thru the latch mechnasim on the seat so you can be in the drivers seat, reach back and pull the seat up, pull 1 of the straps and the ar drops free. Or you could use a 1'' pvc 2 hole strap on the bbl side. Just a thought. |

I keep my Ar15 with 16" bbl in my Truck at all times. I keep it secured with my Kimber Pro CDP that I keep on me at all times! I keep it in a soft case with a few 30 rounders in the pockets of it. I try to do my part to keep America safe with my "Homeland Defense Rifle" and pistol! BigDozer66 |

In CA: -Glock 33 -Benelli M1 Tactical in a covered rack, in the trunk. In NV: -Glock 33 -Shorty FAL with ACOG Under folding back seat. In CO: -Para 14 1911 3.5" -Springfield scout with Leopold scout scope behind seats in crew cab. I don't secure them per say. They are all well out of sight, but the way I see it, if their need did arise, I'm not willing to be fumbling with keys or a combination (with the exception of the Glock in CA which I have in a KC hideaway safe, for legal reasons.) |
