Really- it was Vegas! Dh spent the days in a conference for work so all of my other pics are just of the strip. However we did have some fun shooting a few weapons.

I bet you were shooting out on that place on Tropicana.

I shot my first auto ar15 there. Also, I just got married in Vegas in April.

I've had a lot of good times in that city!

OK, help a noob out. What's up with the upside-down targets? Easier to shoot 'em in the nuts?

And OP, are you cross-eye dominant? Looks like you're using your left eye to aim with.

It was fun. Next time we go it would be nice if the spousal unit had more time to play and less time devoted to work! Still I can't complain. I got to go to Vegas for the cost of a plane ride and food. Not bad.

I think you are right about the street.

I am spoiled by my scope. I was getting a bit frustrated because I couldn't tell if I was hitting the target. No worries, the paper bad guys are DRT. lol

I am extremely (if there are levels of left eye dominance) left eye dominant. I cannot shoot with my right eye. I wish I had known that years ago because I would have enjoyed shooting much sooner than I did. Before my husband figured it out I just pointed at the target, tried to keep my right eye open and left eye closed, and prayed a little. Not nearly as much fun and unbelievably frustrating. I couldn't figure out how shooting could be considered fun. Now it is a blast to go to the range with the hubby. Pun intended.

The pic in my avatar is of me trying to shoot using my right eye. But its the only pic of me shooting my daughter's yellow rifle, so it will have to stay for now.

I think that they told us why the put some of the targets upside down but I don't remember what they said.

They do that so you can land more hits on the target with full auto.

With the muzzle rise you start low and naturally work your way up. I have one of those targets right next to me now.

I took a cab out there, but then the guy at the store told me the bus ran right by there. So, I was riding the bus back and someone asked what I had. I told him it was a target from a shooting range - a picture of a terrorist with an ak47. He asked me to show it to him. When I did, and it was full of bullet holes, everyone on the bus started clapping!

I know how you feel. I was lucky to have learned long ago that I'm cross-eye dominant. Shooting .22 rifles in the Hunter Safety course I took when I was a kid, I could never hit the target. I'm left-handed, so I naturally held the rifle with my left hand on the trigger. Being right-eye dominant made that an exercise in extreme futility (as you know) Pretty soon some astute instructor moved the rifle onto my right side, and voila, I can now hit the target at least 50% of the time!

Vegas is fun. I don't gamble much, so it's not too dangerous for me.

I love it. Looks like you were at The Gun Store on east Tropicana, and I'd venture a guess that there are a lot more locals who ride that route than visitors, so you just got a taste of how the local populace feels about terrorists. And about women who shoot 'em up.

Uhhhh, that was J2dog's story. I don't think he's a girl.

But you are right about the place.

Since I am not in school full time I hope to go with him (we still have to pay for my plane tickets and food but so far it looks like its okay for me to stay in the hotel with him) at least twice a year on his more interesting locations.

I think that would really depend on where you stay, how many shows you go to, how much you gamble.......................

Just walking up and down the strip was free, as was the shuttle to the strip from where we stayed. The hotel was very nice (Hard Rock) and over $100 a night but that was a corporate rate. I was surprised it wasn't more.

I don't gamble (NOT a moral issue just can't bring myself to give my money away that way), so $0 on that.

Dh wouldn't go to any of the shows with me and I didn't want to go alone so $0 on that.

Really going to the Hoover Dam, the Gun Store and eating was the biggest cost for us. Averaged an easy $20 a meal per person. And we rented a car to drive out to the Hoover Dam.

But I think normal people would go to at least one show and probably gamble some. The shows looked expensive at least $60 per person. I wanted to see Santana and that would have been at least $150 a person.

Hard to say.... it's kind of like asking how much it costs to go on a fishing trip. You want to go big, or go little? Want to stay on the Strip in one of the biggie hotels, or off-strip in a 'locals' place? Want to go to some Cirque du Soleil shows, or just a few smaller comedy shows? (on that note, if you want a full-blown stereotypical Vegas show, go check out Folies Bergere) FWIW, with the economy being the way it is, I know hotels here have slashed prices DRASTICALLY and are offering specials on just about everything.

If you want to sight see and/or play the Strip, look into the Bellagio, Wynn, Mirage, Venetian, Paris, etc. You can get even cheaper places at the Excalibur, Luxor, etc, but the best of the sight seeing is up in the neighborhood of the first group. If you want to rent a car, then I can give you some good off-Strip recommendations, and you could drive out of town to check out Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, etc. IM me if you'd like any other advice.

can you get a decent place out there for that cheap?
Easily. Look into the off-Strip locations like The Orleans. The Orleans has rooms starting at about $40/night, and is on Tropicana about 2-3 miles directly east of the Strip where the New York New York and MGM Grand are. A little digging might get you something ON the Strip for that price, there are a lot of deals going on right now.

eta: Der. I just re-read your post and saw you're looking at NEXT year. I don't know how far in advance you can book....

eta2: I just pulled up a random date in June 2001, and they're about $60/night right now.....

I bought some of those the target was flamed becuase some said it dpeictied middle eastern people as terrorists..Turned out to be a self portrait of the guy who makes the targets..Just something I would add becuase I thought it was a terrorist also.

I just got marrid out there in April. We stayed at SouthPoint - it was great! If you want to gamble, there is plenty there. Also, something like 7 restaurants, a bowling alley, and a movie theater. We fount it on www.hotwire.com and paid 77/night.

Staying there, or off strip, you will need a car.

ETA I was able to get reasonable tickets ~20% off for La Reve by using their in-house ticket broker. (at the Wynn)

That may be part of the reason, but another part is that it's the only way some ranges will allow head shots. The range I go to has a sign in every bay saying no head shots, but the range officer lets me because he knows I can shoot.

A lot of tourists come in to rent guns because they can rent guns they can't own in their state, and are horrible shots. They end up shooting up the ceiling and ricocheting bullets, increasing danger to the other shooters and causing damage.
