I'm just putting together a rig for my first hog hunt in GA next month (semi-auto in 6.8). As I live in a state with a limit on features (CT) it will be ban compliant here. It just struck me that I'll have to drive through NJ and NY, maybe other states which are hostile towards so called assault weapons. I had thought that as I was driving through these states with the firearms locked and unloaded in the trunk for the purposes of hunting elsewhere I would not be breaking the law but I had a look online and I'm worried that either my rifle or magazines might be a problem at least at state level.
Does anyone know if I may transport firearms and magazines through states in which they might not be legal to own? |
| FOPA would cover the gun (as long as you comply with it's terms very closely), NJ and NYC have given people issues in the past but if you can avoid getting your car searched or going through an airport the gun is probably fine. Most people who run into trouble are playing on the outside edges of the law. The mags may be a different situation under FOPA. |
