| Anyone know where I can get some good software to do this? Preferrably something I don't have to shell out $20 for too. My 60 gig iPod is nearly full and I want to back up all the songs on my external hard drive just in case. |

I heard if you plug in the ipod and then go to My Computer and open the drive, you just have to go to the options for that folder and make all the files viewable. Apparently that's all there is to it. I have a mac though, and all i did was download Senuti. its free and i hink it might work on a pc too. |

Yeah when your iPod is plugged into the computer, it should show up in your My Computer. Open it up to explore, and make sure you have it selected to see hidden files and folders. But the iPod puts the songs into 45 different folders, and changes the file names to some random four letter name, like JRKL.mp3. So it can be a pain to find what song you want, unless you just want to copy them all to your computer. Good luck. Brian ETA: I've copied songs from my iPod to my PC a number of times. It's not always stable, sometimes it wets the bed and you need to restart and copy the ones that didn't go. But it works. |

Well, how did you get the library to the iPod in the first place? From your computer right? Why don't you just back up the master iTunes library and then uncheck the songs you don't want loaded to your iPod? They will be deleted from the iPod the next time you synchronize. Maybe I'm not getting the picture here.
