Well 15 years into my career, the last 8 as an Investigator with the last 2 as Chief Investigator (Lieutenant) I'm being transferred over to run the Patrol Division! 70ish Deputies in the squads plus 5 K-9/Interdiction guys... As one of my buddies who runs one of the squads told me "You get to be a man again!" I didn't ask for it but I'm stoked. I expect my hair loss to slow and my BP to drop and I expect to have some fun again! Getting a 09 Charger w front and rear radar, camera, MDT, plus e-ticket! Never had any of that shit back when I was doing it! "Why is the L T working again tonight?" will be a common question! I'm going for immersion training. Likely ride with Sgts and Cpls 3-4 shifts a week. I gotta re-learn patrol work and then figure how I can best serve the guys. The last Lt was slack. Fuggin' S L A C K. I wanna make something of the job that benefits the guys. Diet and exercise began today. Gotta get the desk gut closer to my spine! I will miss being the guy on the big cases but I will not miss the fucking stress and the politics! Woo, I am about to be the real pOlice again!! |

Congrats on the new position. I like how you put it that you have to re-learn patrol. It would help our brass if they looked at it that way. +1000 Big time congrats!!!! That's awsome. You'll have to post pics of your new ride when you get it. -SleeperShooter |

Isn't it amazing how much hair one can lose and how high the blood pressure can get after only a few years in CID. Congrats on being the POlice again. |

i cant believe that nobody has said it. i tried to say it last night but my post didnt go through.
Dont think that now that you're back on patrol your stress is going to go away. If you're supervising +70 guys you're going to be dealing with all kinds of bullshit and fuckups from your troops. You will be putting out fires all night. Cops getting into trouble off duty, getting into trouble at work, cops getting caught sleeping, screwing up arrests and reports, crashing into stuff, ect. normal cop stuff with 70 guys. I have been out of trouble for a while thankfully (knock on wood) but among my coworkers i have heard of all kind of crap, domestics, lying to supervisors, lack of productivity, ect. You will be dealing with all of that, and answering to all of your troops actions to your higher ups, and they will be handing their problems down to you. ENJOY!!! seriously though, congratulations. |

Thanks for the comments guys. I have had many of the men call and tell me how glad they were that I was coming over. Very flattering. I don't expect the stress to vanish for sure but I think that I will be able to leave it at work much better than when in CID. Not having cases that carry over through weeks and months, the pressure to solve major cases or sprees, the political BS (not as much at least), dealing with the media, dealing with our horrible District Attorney on major cases, plus not being on call (I added the LT slot back into the rotation when I took CID) will make life better. I expect there to be problems of course but most would be immediate and specific. July 12 can not get here soon enough but damn, I have a LOT of stuff to do between now and then! |

I'm sure to be desk bound 2-3 days a week but there is no way the administrative duties will exceed that. The guy I'm replacing likely didn't spend 8 hours a week doing "Lieutenant Shit" and apparently that was acceptable for over 2 years. So even after I figure out what needs doing and how I can help the Sergeants with some of their admin headaches I still can't see it being anywhere close to a 40 hour a week job. |

Quoted: Ha. No, he has been given a BS admin position. They finally decided to make him function somewhat as a LT as opposed to an overpaid traffic cop.Quoted: I'm sure to be desk bound 2-3 days a week but there is no way the administrative duties will exceed that.
