Today was the first day ...Yeah I'm sure this place isn't spilling over with cycling fans ..Over the past few years of riding Cat 5 and T-Shirt rides I've come to appreciate what these guys can do.   Its also a great sport for gear heads as well..Some of these bikes and the electronics that go on them are really slick as hell..So who ya got ? Froome and Team Sky again?

Screw that whole organization. Whats his name juiced, and won a bunch of TDF's racing against a bunch of juicers. Hell they have probably been using PED's since the 50's. I bet they still are.

I like to watch the tour a little, but my friend just completed this race.  4,300 miles coast to coast across the us. self supported, in 19 days.

She was the first woman to complete it, and came in third out of a field of 131.  Pretty bad ass if you ask me.

I've been in the bicycle business for over 20 years and have been working for pro teams since '04...I still can't begin to imagine what those guys go through to complete 3 weeks of racing. And the support staff as well. I've been the only mechanic for an 8 woman team at a 5 day stage race and I was so cracked at the end, no wonder these teams have 3, 4, or even 5 mechanics for a 9 man team.
As for the racers, I can't stand watching Froome ride a bike. It's ugly, and he just stares at the power meter. Stoked for Geraint today, he's a great rider. I don't really think I care who ends up winning, I just hope that Taylor finishes or at least reaches whatever goal he's set for himself after what probably should've been a career ending crash. He's a great kid and deserves some good luck this year.

And fuck Lance.

They tested when Lance was winning. A couple of large donations to the UCI and politics being what they are he somehow managed to pass all the tests. Those teams had the most sophisticated doping programs on the planet. They easily rivaled anything the easter bloc countries did.

Sucked seeing Valverde crash into that barrier, not sure if he will come back from that.

After my sister in law married one of these drug addled morons, I'm a huge TDF fan.

I'm rooting for them all to crash.  No deaths, no broken bones, just a bunch of road rash.

They are ALL dopers.  Every last one of them.  They know what to take and how long to take it before a race, they know what to take to run the banned substances out of their system before a test, they know what to say when caught.

What's even more disturbing is that the racing body knows it's going on and are just as culpable.  They fap their arms when a racer is caught as if it is the most surprising thing ever but they know everyone is doing it.

The amount of pain that you can endure on a bike without needing to actually stop pedaling boggles the mind.

Here in GD I would guess a very,  very small percentage have any idea what kind of suck-fest any of the major tours are.

Anyone that thinks any sport is clean where fame and money are at stake, is a moran.

Drugs arent for me, but i dont have a problem with it. What makes one expensive half assed effective drug legal where a cheap effective drug isnt? Lobbying. The supplement industry is huge.

When you got to a dr, they don't give you a shot with misspelled words and a photoshopped lunkhead on it. No, they give you steroid injection. Bc the shit works when used properly.

Its like the opposite of body building. These guys get stupid skinny and still keep a stupid amount of power with PEDs.

I'm a cycling fan!!!Ā

The politics of cycling racing ruins the sport. It's been going on since the inception.

I used to be glued to the TV during the TDF but I don't recognize the names anymore and quite frankly it's not the same without Lance, Ulrich, and the others.

The worse part though is that I can't cycle anymore and it makes me sad. I used to cycle a lot, it was a bit of an obsession and along with that come injuries from wrecks. You think you've healed but when you get 50 or so they come back.Ā

People don't appreciate what a dangerous sport it is. It takes precious little to cause a crash when you're zipping along at 30 miles an hour on little thin wheels and the only thing to break your fall is your neck and shoulders. I can't even hold my head up to ride in proper road bike position, even if I did have cartilage left in my knees, which I don't. And if I ever injure my shoulder again I'm going to kill myself.

Maybe I'll watch it this year. Ā I wonder what it's like watching as a non-participant. Probably less painful.

It's my understanding that they always tested the hematocrit so everyone was more or less on a level playing field as fast as that goes, whether there was erythropoietin involved or not.

But let's just pretend bicyclists are the only ones that use PED'sĀ

I think I agree. I think it's a shame that everyone thinks the dope had everything to do with Lance's skill and his other physical attributes and work had nothing to do with it.

He did more with his cancer charities than most ball player thugs did combined.Ā

To destroy it all was an over-reaction in my opinion.

Doping has been going on at the TDF since it began and EVERYONE does it.  There is even a Wikipedia article on it:

TDF doping

It's a level playing field, and Lance Armstrong was truly that amazing.  Even without the doping he was an exceptional athlete.  And his Livestrong organization he founded has done a lot of good for millions of people.  The problem with Lance is he lied about it.  Had he just admitted when he got caught, he would have been slapped on the wrist and fined, but would have kept his titles and all his money.

It was time for him to step aside, make room for the next doping cyclist champion, and follow the unwritten rules.  He didn't do that so they punished him.  They all dope.  Greg Lemond claims he didn't, but in my opinion he was just able to outsmart them at the time.

I road bike.  In fact, I rode 100 miles yesterday.  I am impressed what pro cyclists are capable of but don't admire them as individuals.  For the most part they are a bunch of self absorbed pricks.  So why do I cycle?  It is excellent exercise, it's fun, and it is a lot easier on my knees than running.  It sure as hell isn't to emulate pro cyclists.

The problem with EPO was folks started doing so much of it their hearts couldn't pump their blood when they went to sleep and several died.

That is not the reason for the 6.8 kg weight limit. It was put in place as a safety precaution so the frames and components would be built 'safely'.

Only the occasional moron does it these days because of the new testing techniques. They're storing blood samples for decades. Whenever a new test is developed, they re-test all the samples going back years. Even your average pedaling meathead is going to put it together that he even if he slides by now, he has a sword of Damocles hanging over his head that could fall at any time his samples are retested.
