This is the sort of nonsense that pops up when you don't have real issues to worry about.
You create issues for yourself and assign importance to them.
Go ahead and play this little word and socialization game that you have created.
You can even judge those around you by how well they play it.

It's people seeking advantage. The hate crime legislation silences the opposing view. And creates double standards. Concessions through legislation.
He explains why it has such industrious supporters really well. If you claim moral virtuosity, and can point to bad guys, you are obviously a good person. By proclaiming your defense of the abused, disaffected and disenfranchised (he's not against true causes, but this one got his attention because of the legislation they are trying to pass and the silliness and contradictory/ hypocritical nature of their position). Always on the side of right.
But it's a never-ending endeavour to proclaim your moral righteousness and proving it continually by virtue signalling your ethical supremacy. So you pick up any cause of the left. To prove your moral superiority. To maintain your elevated position lording over the benighted.
It's just words and proclamations so, other than being really loud and persistent, it's not that much of a cost to you personally to be all high and mighty. It's not an argument or discussion. The opposition is shouted down. Shamed and guilted. Cry-bullying really. And it's popular for the correct minded. Because it's a social club. Of like-minded, virtue signalling snobs....
(my perception of it anyways. I could be wrong)
