Copy. I just watched the episode where they ran the Mustang, small yellow car, and the lincoln through the desert and it got me thinking... oh your watching the wrong one TG is on BBC right now, just watched the Botswana Special again, just EPIC stuff The exotics are loaners from the manuf, like was mentioned some manuf wont give them their cars (ie Veyron) so rich guys let them borrow them. The only time the hosts bought their own cars(w/their own $) was the one where they went to the auction then rallyed them. |

Yeah, you can be proud to be a member of a very small minority with that comment. BBC/UK Top Gear infinitely better than the US Top Gear. BBC/UK Top Gear is one of the best things ever produced by the Brits. |

Not sure what episode you watched - I would give it another shot. I find it much more enjoyable than the U.S. version. |

Some manufacturers wont give them cars because Clarkson and Company beat the shit out of them and refuse to pay lip service. And that's one of the reasons it's a great show. I'll be heartbroken when that show goes off the air
The USA is usually terrible when it comes to making their own versions of foreign TV shows and movies. The Office is one of the few exceptions. The one that really killed me is the Death at a Funeral remake... the original (English) movie came out in 2007 AND WAS RELEASED IN THE USA (limited) and it was brilliant IMHO. Then is was remade in the USA with Chris Rock in 2010... and the same dwarf (Tyrion Lannister) played the same role in both movies. |

Exotics are usually the manufacturers "press fleet".
A lot of times they are test mules that are torn down after their test drivers and the automotive journalists are done with them. Think durability study examples. Challenge cars are part of the production budget I would imagine. |

Anything after that is pretty good. ETA: Fixed quotes. |

Some manufacturers wont give them cars because Clarkson and Company beat the shit out of them and refuse to pay lip service. I think another part of it is that car companies like Bugatti don't want to see their 7 figure Veyron beaten around Top Gears test track by a car that costs a tenth of the price. |

Quoted: Thanks. Yeah I don't remember what Brittish episode I watched but I made it about 20 mins and had to change it. I guess I like the US version because the guys make me laugh. They just mess around the entire show and make fun of eachother. And on that bombshell. . . |

Those were way better than the shit I watched. |

They just mess around the entire show and make fun of eachother. They do that on the original top gear too. And it's funnier because it's british. The American crew ape a lot of what the British crew do. Adding weight to the car, crashing into each other, breaking things. I enjoy American Top Gear because I can better identify with the guys and the cars, but I'd like to see less of the challenge stuff. I know they've done some, but I'd like to see more individual segments. |

How else could you possibly explain it's massive popularity here? Three quarters of the shit they do, would make any redneck proud. The other quarter is just plain thoughtful and insightful.

I can see Ferrari and Bugatti not wanting to loan the million dollar cars for the power lap. They have everything to lose. The top line ones are legendary, and actually having numbers put up might hurt their mystique.. |

Quoted: How could anyone not like Top Gear UK? This is the hardest I've laughed at television. THIS is what makes the show so awesome. It's in the details. |

If the car caught on fire while he was driving it, he would have cooked a steak on it and said it made a great barbie. |
|
I've never seen that "Communistical" episode before, that's hilarious when a dog beats their cars in the 1/4 mile.

The American Top Gear is the WORST FUCKING THING EVER! In the BBC top gear, these guys take cars and fucking PUSH THEM. It's nothing for them to buzz around at 180-200MPH or more! I watched top gear US, and they were acting poorly at being "scared" of going 155 in the Mustang, Camaro, Charger (iirc) episode. Fucking stupid! They can't keep the manufactured drama out. |
|
That one ranks (IMHO) as the funniest one they ever did. I've seen this segment a hundred times, and I still laugh so hard I cry, when I see it again. |

But then there are other manufacturers that use them to their benefit, I can't remember the car but a recent episode after the Stig got done with the lap he said that he thought the car would be faster with more downforce. The manufacturer came back a few weeks later with a spoiler and put a better time out. |

As for US Top Gear is the worst, I think Australian Top Gear (it does exist, unfortunately) would give the US version a run for it's money for being bad. |
