A few weeks ago I bought a pretty large lot of old tools, mostly ratchets and sockets and mostly Craftsman brand.  I have always bought and had Craftsman tools which is why I was bidding on this lot.

The question is have any of you ever heard of Truth Mankato, Thorsen or S-K brand tools?  Are they any good or worth keeping?

The S-K stuff seems pretty stout.  Almost everything that was not Craftsman seemed to be 1/2" drive and 3/4" or larger sockets.

I've heard of SK.  I think my dad has a 3/4" drive set by them.

SK is good stuff . thorsen is ok.  It is sold on the cheap shelf in hardwarestores both at one time had lifetime warranties.

Keep the S-K and sell or trade away the rest.  There is nothing more less-than-useless than a cheap tool.

S-K is GTG. Thorson is so-so. Lifetime warranties,

so just use it till it breaks, then get it replaced.

you never know when you might have to 'modify' a tool

to do a special job, so I keep the cheaper stuff for those

sacrificial needs.

YMMV

S-K ranks up there with Snap-On, Matco, Mac. I have a bunch of 30 plus year old S-K sockets and ratchet.

someone with more dollars than sense

yes, Snap-On is good, but very expensive.  nothing wrong with Craftsman*, SK, Matco, MAC

+1 on keeping most of it for the odd tool you may have to make/modify

*eta: if you stay away from some of the gimic-y stuff they sell.

s-k is a good brand
I have some 3rd generation thorsen stuff so it works for me

truth stuff could be pretty old possibly, check it out, sometime you can find a collector that will buy a pile of old crap and you can go buy a bigger pile of new stuff.

SK is good to go.

As far as tools go, and I make my living with tools, I don't care so much for price, but I do care about quality.  Most of my toolbox is either Snap-On or MAC, with some Knipex, Blackhawk, and Fluke thrown in.
