I absolutely detested this shit when it premiered.

Last weeks (about the roadblock) wasn't nearly as bad. Still had some bullshit but wasn't quite Mickey Moore levels of bullshit.

Maybe I will give the damn thing a chance.

And the kids Mom is a whore fucking bitch. Fine if you are single, fucked up if you are married and criminal grounds for execution if you are also a "Mommy." I hate that bitch.

The ending was pretty good. "Don't hurt anyone there. They don't know what it is." My ass.

The great thing is instead of showing an innocent farm family they show a guy with an AK taking a look at his haul right before...

Well, I won't spoil it.

I'm also glad they didn't get preachy about our treatment of prisoners.

It says tonight... not which tonight. And it was actually started two weeks ago. Not last week. But it's all encompassing with a title like that. Tonight's thread can easily be next week's "tonight".

It's the first episode i've ever watched and it struck me as typical Anti american hollywood!!

I mean c'mon the guy promises the Iraqi the U.S won't hurt anyone on the farm and they bomb it?!

Two things wrong with this:

1. We'd want the Missles back since they were stolen from us!

2. We wouldn't bomb from the air anyway since it it would blow the launchers everywhere and there would not be guarantee they were destroyed by someone eyeballing the scene!

Oh and itfurther tries to state we hand over prisoners to thrid parties to be tortured, this was a pure liberal press, ACLU accusation they could not prove!

I did, too, except I can't help reading a "message" into it.  Based on the Hollyweird M.O. I took it as a final little jab at the ruthless and untrustworthy American military.  Anyone with a realistic worldview, and even a limited grasp of how the other side plays, should have no problem understanding doing what must be done.  But somehow I think they were playing to their irresistable urge to show us as the ultimate bad guys.

That being said, I get a sense that their "target audience" probably doesn't tune in.  At the very least they're not seeing anything they don't already imagine so the sum of Bochco's effort is zero.  Those like us who watch it get a kick out of such things.  I have yet to feel any pity for any of the "victims" they've offered up on the part of the bad guys.  I could do without all the stereotypes of every bad personality in the military but I focus on the gun porn if nothing else.

In fact, I may have to watch the second run of it to, uh, finish up, if you know what I mean.  I just hope I can hold out to the LGB at the end...

WTF!!!  What show were you watching??? Apparently you weren't listening to the dialog, it was ALL about being 'preachy' on prisoner abuse!!!

You can see that show any way you like.
Personally I like the way they portrayed us, that's how I'd like to play the game. Torture and lie to the bastards and then bomb the crap out of them.
You guys can see that as a liberal message, I see it as playing the game right.

ETA: I actually hope that's how we're playing the game 'over there'.

To me, it wasn't preachy or liberal propaganda at all. Yes, the Colonel told him no one would be hurt, but the prisoner also lied about no one at the farm knowing. It seemed to me to simply show that the Colonel has the experience to know better than to trust a tango.

As far as turning over prisoners to other countries, he was simply threatening. I am certain that our guys do threaten this and much worse to get vital intel, and rightfully so. The Colonel even told Dim earlier that he just needed to convince the prisoner that he actually would do what he threatened.

Anybody else notice this?

Last week a couple of them said they enlisted right after 9/11.

So why are they still privates?
By now they should either be Spec/4 or something like that.  Maybe even a buck sergeant.

One last thing about last week:
I taped Over There followed immediately by a taping of ER.
ER’s version of Iraq is more believable that Fox’s take.

It's not a great show, but some of you seem to watch it just waiting for something to piss you off.

It's like my Ex-Wife, I would flip through the TV channels and say "I'm Bored" and she would say "Are you saying I bore you?" and then she would run to the bedroom crying.

Actually. . .not true. Discovery or TLC or some channel like that had a special on about interrogation. The guy they had on stated that they used the threat of turning these guys over, and went so far as to dress a U.S. interragator up to scare the living sh!t out of some of the guys. The show never said they handed them over only threatened that they did. And if you think that's as far as the interragators are going you're mistaken, and I'm completely okay with whatever they need to do to get the job done!

The show is crap.

It made the Americans to look like lying buffoons and the enemy to be a noble freedom fighter.  This is the same shit the Liberals did during the Vietnam War.

I won't waste my time watching the show any more.  I have too much respect for our troops in Iraq to watch this shit.

I'll let the weak minded Useful Idiots appreciate the show.  I'll pass on it.

Do some of you actually think that just because one character expresses some pacifist or liberal tendencies that the show is anti-war or anti-American????

Do you think it would be better if it just depicted a bunch of guys like us sitting around saying things like, "Nuke 'em all." or "Shoot him in the face."

Unfortunately, not everyone feela the same as we do and showing diverse opinions and personalities among the characters is realistic.

Some of you guys seem to think that the military is nothing but republicans boy are you wrong! When I was part of the 1st Cav during the first Bush election in 2000 A lot of the "african american" soldiers walked around the battalion area claiming so proudly that they voted for Gore
and that they were proud democrats this included two of our first sergeants.

I think that the show is pretty good it shows a good mix of different characters that really show up in most platoons.  Every platoon I have ever been a part of had its mix of racists, democrats, hard chargers and fuckups.   As for tactics most combat arms platoons make mistakes, they dont always do what is right for the given situation. A good example of this happened to the 10th mountain when they first got to STAN.

I really enjoy this show it is gritty and in your face about casualties and has some pretty grusome parts.  It has some faults but overall it is a good show.

I think the show is pretty good compared to what else is on in that time slot. They key to somewhat enjoying the show is to not look for any hint of Liberalism you can find, then write the show off as Liberal propoganda. It is much more enjoyable that way.

My thought is if Bochco really wanted a Liberal slant,he would have shown the ROP'er getting beat up by that Colonel, then him telling all the soldiers if they say anything they will be reprimanded and kicked out of the service and life destroyed.Nothing like that happened.Hell, they even went as far to say THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED to do anything else to the prisoner except that "Distress" position.

Another Liberal slant would have been for Bochco NOT to show the guy with the AK47 at the farm house before it was targeted, but they did.

It's all in the way you look at it.Besides what else is on ? Fucking reruns of the Ellen show???
