Grand Jury Indicts Several in DeLay PAC
Tuesday, September 21, 2004

AUSTIN — A Travis County grand jury indicted several people and corporations Tuesday connected to a political action committee formed by Republican U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (search), but DeLay was not charged.

Among those with Texans for a Republican Majority (search) who were charged are: John Colyandro, James Ellis and Warren RoBold, along with the companies Sears Roebuck and Cracker Barrel, which made contributions to the PAC.

The panel has been investigating whether corporate funds were illegally used to help Republican candidates win elections in 2002 that gave the GOP a majority in the Texas House for the first time since Reconstruction.

The grand jury investigated whether DeLay's PAC and the Texas Association of Business (search) funneled $2.5 million in corporate contributions to Republican state House candidates. DeLay was questioned or subpoenaed in the investigation.

Anyone heard anything else about this? Could this be trouble?

Old news. The libs and the lib jurist went after "The Hammer" with a vengance. They turned over every rock possible but came up empty. He is in no danger and free to bedevil the libs even more.

This is just political bull.

This is the same DA that had Kay Bailey Hutchison indicted several years ago only to have the judge laugh him out of court.

Same thing going on now.

The Dems are just irate at Delay forcing redistricting of Texas down their throats. This offended their belief that a state that regularly votes 60% Republican or more shouldn't have a majority of gerrymandered Democrat-safe districts in the House.

Now that the districts actually reflect some proportion of how Texans vote, the Dems are furious as they will lose between 5-6 seats in the House. So this is payback for Delay... it is a dead issue though.

Not even the Travis county DA was willing to charge Delay, especially after it looks like the bipartisan House ethics committee is going to clear him on the same complaint. They are just going after his donors and friends now and trying to make life uncomfortable.
