Next weekend (JUN 8, 9, and 10) is the Mid Atlantic Air Museums annual WWII weekend in Reading PA. It is one of the largest gatherings of WWII aircraft, vehicles, reenactors, and C3 weapons in the country. On the schedule this year are 3 B-17's, 3 P-51's, 1 P-47, 1 Corsair, and about 50 other aircraft (the sight of 3 B-17's in formation is getting rarer and rarer, and the chance to see this awsome sight is worth the trip.), over 150 restored WWII vehicles including Sherman tanks, half tracks, tank destroyers, over 50 jeeps and much more. Over 750 reenactors will portray every nation that particpated in the war. Many famous WWII veterans will be ther including Robert Morgan (Pilot of the Memphis Bell), Navajo code talkers, memebers of the Tuskeegee Airman, members of the original Flying Tigers and Black Sheep squadron, Nisei (Japanese American) troops, and many others.
The weekend will be filled with aircraft flyovers, mock dogfights, ground battle reenactments, briefings by the famous veterans, reenactor encampments, as well as a large militaria flea market (look for me in the Old Grouch's Surplus tent)
Both Friday and Saturday feature a USO swing dance, Friday is an informal South Pacific style dance, and the Japs have been known to strafe the field halfway through, drawing lots of fire from the ground untill friendly aircraft can scramble to chase them off. Saturday is a ETO style dance, much more formal than the previous one with all reenactors in period dress uniforms.
This is a great show for anyone with a love for military history, as well a a great chance to educate younger generations about the sacrifices made by the WWII vets.
