Can anyone recommend a free or low cost ticketing and tracking software.

We would like to have client enter their own support tickets from a web based interface.
Staff would then be able to assign the tickets to themselves.

We are currently using Excel for a call log, but it not exactly a good solution.

bugzilla, would probably be my first choice.
it is meant for bug tracking, but would allow you to do what you want.
only catch would be the originator would be generic in the system and they would have to enter contact info in the bug.

Thanks guys, looking at all of these.

Is Spiceworks completely free?  Info is a little vague on it.

They have a free version (With Ads) and a paid. We use the free one.

I used Spiceworks at a former job. Great solution for a free helpdesk.  Also has a lot of network monitoring tools and a good resource for researching problems.

I've deployed Web Help Desk at my two previous employers.  The cost is right and the functionality is great.  It's been picked up by SolarWinds but it was (probably still is) a fantastic product.
