About a month ago I was scratching my belly and felt something weird, looked, and found a tick feeding on me. I managed to pull the tick making damn sure I got the head out as well. I was able to get it out in one piece. I did the standard clean the would with peroxide, puts some neosporin on the wound and covered with a band-aid, change the band-aid twice a day for a few days and then left it alone. The wound scabbed over normaly, healed and then i forgot all about it. Yesterday I noticed a bump on my skin and looked and I have about a dime sized area where the bite was that is raised and red. Today it has a smallish white area in the center of the red bump that looks like i could scratch it off and open up the skin again. It does not have the bullseye look of a Lime Disease rash and from what i understand the lime disease bite area is smooth, it just has a central red spot with a ring around it which i don't have.

Question is should I be concerned and get tested? I have no insurance so I don't want to go in if I don't have too.

Sounds like it may have just gotten infected.

As for lymes, the rash doesn't always show up, so keep an eye out for the other symptoms too.

The thing is the wound totally healed up, then this appeared a few weeks after it healed. Just strikes me as strange.

Well, I believe about a third the time a LD carrying tick bite doesn't even leave a bullseye afterwards so that isn't a safe bet. Have you felt weak or tired lately?

I would get tested to be safe. No idea what this cost. But if you are infected, the sooner the treatment the better. Fortunately, the antibiotic you would need is very inexpensive (doxycycline). Believe publix will give it to you for free with a script.

Cut your labor day week BBQ binge a few days short and pony up for the test.

Seriously though, if you are in doubt, get tested.  Shit, get tested anyway.  I get it done on my annual blood work just to be sure.  You don't want untreated lymes disease.

It's easy to leave a few mouth and head parts in since the tick basically cements itself in your skin.  Unless you dug pretty vigorously, it could easily be mouth parts. The few ticks I've had I try as best as I can stand to dig out the area and disinfect.  BUT...  Lyme doesn't always present external symptoms.

Look on drudge report. Read about a tickborne disease in the midwest today i think, some shit i've never heard of.

Get to the doc. and get tested.

The bullseye only shows up part of the time. Some folks don't even have any outward signs other than a slow healing bite area.

Lyme ain't the only crud the nasty little fuckers carry, either. Ticks play host/vector to a bunch of parasites that can and will fuck you up.
Hell, I'm still paying for Bush tick fever 11 years after getting bit, and i's no fucking joke.

If it was a normal bite, it should have healed like any other pin sized and shallow puncture wound.
For your own damn sanity it's worth the trip to the Doc, to eliminate the question.

Good luck to ya.

Get tested.  I had Lyme disease and it sucks balls to cure.  The sad thing is that you never get over it, the bacteria stays in your system.  The drugs you take fuck you up worse than the Lymes in the beginning.  The earlier you catch it the better you will be.  If you let it go longer you will get symptoms later in life.  Arthritis is the big one.  Debilitating arthritis.

<sigh> I will pony up and go to the Doc, that will add another bill to the pile. Self Employment is a bitch.

My friend got Lyme Disease. Ended up slightly disabled, used those arm crutch things. Later he burned to death in his basement when the house caught fire because he couldn't physically move up the stairs fast enough to get out. Rough way to go.

According to a map I found, Lyme disease is pretty rare in IA unless you are in the northwest corner of the state.  If it were me I'd probably just put some astringent on it and call it a day.

It does happen where I am at, Mom got it about 10 years ago from a bite, although she had the bullseye.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

I'm thinking a piece of the head was left in.  Clean out the area again

If the tic is removed within 24-48hr, the tic doesn't have time to deposit a virus.  The virus is left when the tic exits.

When I get bit by ticks the bite last for over a year itching and looking infected.
Do a google search there are people who have the skin cut out, antibiotics etc etc and they still come back.
Must be some kind of Super Tick the GOV created off the Island near me.

You probably did more harm by keeping a Band-Aid on it.

That shit needs to air-out and be dry.

You are right about the 24h time frame, but it is actually bacterium.
