Last week Botach... Yeah I know, boooo... hisss... had SOG S45-N stainless multi tools with the power assist pliers for $29.97 IIRC. I picked up two, they arrived yesterday. Seems like a really nice tool,  and $30 seems ridiculously cheap. Think maybe I should have purchased a few more as gifts. How do these stand up to say Leatherman, Gerber, and Buck? Yeah, should have asked before buying... But at that price I figured they would be gone fast.

I don't like them as much as Gerbers or Leathermans because I've broken them easily and they are much bigger.  jmho

Interesting, these are on the smallish side in my opinion. Do you remember what model you're thinking of by chance?

I had one many years ago that was good quality...but I haven't seen one in at lest 15 years so I can't speak to their quality these days.

They're the best Multi-tools coming out of Taiwan right now.

Comparable but slightly less refined and developed as Leatherman and Victorinox. I'd rank them as follows.

1. Leatherman / Victorinox tie
2. SOG
3.
4. Gerber

Buck isn't a full-line multi-tool maker anymore. Their current offerings rank with CRKT's tool like. Interesting and kind of neat but lacking in overall ability, materials and design.

They're always $30 on the deal sites.

For that price, they're not bad tools.

Leatherman or Victorinox are nicer IMO, but the good ones are 3x as much so...

I've been issued at least a dozen various mulit-tools and it's my least favorite.  I found this pic, it's happened to me twice.

It was this model.

I don't mind my set.. I haven't had a new set of leather mans though.

The power assist is nice.

Bought a bunch of them off of steep and cheap a few years ago as gifts. Use mine regularly and have no complaints. The power lock pliers are better than the leatherman I have. They were selling this model http://sogknives.com/store/S62.html for $30 or so.

I've been using/abusing multitools since I was a Boy Scout >20 years ago.  I mainly use them for the pliers, wire cutters, and screw drivers.

SOGs are all I'll buy...have had my current one for about 6 years now((this one, but a whole lot less expensive...I pull the little covers off), carried every day in uniform.  Had too many issues with Leatherman tools years ago and Gerbers suck, yeah they open fast, but other than that, they aren't for me.

What did you crack the pliers on?

Usually, anything I'd need to be doing with those pliers, I have a more suitable tool handy.

Be that a robo-grip, needlenose, or even wrenches... so I've never really used multi tool pliers too hard.

For me, a tool has to have scissors, I use those all the damn time.

Weapons mount on a gun truck pulling the pins out.  I has the most complete badass weapons/range bag ever put together stolen by the locals from out of a connex overseas, otherwise I would have used another tool.  I'm not very nice to my multi-tools, that's why I'm sitting probably a dozen right now.  I had hundreds and hundreds of dollars invested in that bag that was stolen.
