I've always taken mine to the American Legion Hall, and they take care of it. I've never done it myself, mainly because I wasn't sure if there was a special procedure for burning.
So you're saying that the blue field must be cut away from the rest of the flag first? Are they burned at the same time? Any links to detailed instructions? Seriously, I'd like to know. |

After 9/11 when everyone wanted to be patriotic and drove around with a flag tied to the roof of their car or truck and ended up ruining god knows how many flags, Walmart had a disposal service going on. I don't exactly know HOW they disposed of the flags, but I'd assume they weren't just thrown into the dumps.

I retired one the other day but haven't burned it yet. I need to find the right place/setting to burn it.
I felt bad cutting the blue field out and separating the stripes but it felt worse to see that tattered flag dangling from the pole. |

Boyscouts/Cubscouts was probably the best thing I ever did growing up. I can't wait till my kid starts up.

You separate the field from the stripes so it is no longer an American flag. Some separate the stripes as well.

I have stopped, made u turns, double back to pick up the flags that have fallen from peoples car/truck. I have about 8 of them of all types. It pisses me off to see them sitting of the side of the road. |
