I'm still running a Sony VAIO desktop PC that bought back in 2003 and an contemplating an upgrade. Looks like hardware has changed a lot since I built my last PC (before 2003), and I don't really know where to start. I'm not interested in building my own and really only need the actual computer itself since I the current keyboard, mouse, screen work fine. However, I may take advantage of a bundle that offers a larger screen (current is a 15" LCD) if there's a significant discount.
I'm looking for a sleek, efficient setup as I'm not very demanding of my computer. Most of my computer use is internet and email, although I also do a lot of photo editing and some video editing. Microsoft Office gets some occasional use. I have an XBOX 360 and PS3, so I don't do much computer gaming aside from WoW. My main requirement is stability. I haven't had a single problem with my Sony VAIO in over six years and am still running the same Windows XP installation it came with. It gets used a lot too, so don't think it's only been stable because it's never on––it's been switched on almost 24/7 for those six years and used about 4 hours a day on average. My current computer's reliability is the biggest reason I haven't upgraded yet. I'm hoping my next computer will last this long and be this problem-free. My budget is $700 or less. Any suggestions? . . . once the new windows comes installed. That's a good point. My wife has Windows Vista on her laptop, and I hate it. I will definitely be getting Windows 7. Not getting a Dell though. Every Dell I have encountered has had problems. I'll probably get something off Newegg. |

they have a good range of systems. I have bought from them before, but now i build for myself. really they aren't much more expensive then building yourself plus you get5 the benefit of a warranty. |
