This track is legendary!!!! They still use it, but not the original 12 miles....Cool fact, all four seasons can be experience in the course of 1 lap.

Would love to rent an E30 M3 to take a few laps around it. That would be a blast. Maybe some year.

Damn that was awesome. The paddle shifters made the side view a little less exciting though.

Curious, have they ever driven a WRC rally car at Nurburgring? It should easily smoke any production car.

Just my thoughts, but the straights would give a rally car issues because of the tall gearing they use to create wheel spin and acceleration. I think they would top out way before the end of some of those straights.

If I ever hit the lottery or something, first thing I'm gonna do is go to a school and learn how to drive the PISS out of some fast cars.

Then I'm going to call up Porsche and order a 911... maybe a GT2 RS or a Turbo... have it all custom made, and go to Stuttgart and watch 'em build it.   Then I'm gonna drive that fucker to the Nurburgring and tear it up on the track.  Probably after breaking it in around Europe for a while.   Then I have a couple friends I'd fly out there, buy them whatever car they want, and we'd all go out to the 'ring.   Fuck  yeah.

I was able to attend a couple of races there while I was stationed at Bitburg back in the '80s.  They would occasionally have a "GI's get in free" day.

I have been there many many times when I lived in Germany.
With several different cars nothing as high tech as your M3 just a Scirocco, Golfi GTI and an Opel Ascona. That was a long time ago but you are able to drive on the Nordschleife - see info below. But I am sure it would cost more than that just to ship your Car over to Germany.

At a glance
Venue:Nordschleife

Next car will likely be the new version of M5 and the European delivery.  Almost did that with the M3 earlier this year but couldn't get away.

this is great - this way you can Drive the Car on the Autobahn. Enjoy it you won't want to leave. Take it down to Munich and than up to Nurnberg - you most likely will ship it from Bremen or Hamburg.

The only negative about the 'ring is that they refuse to allow bikes to lap the entire course length. They make the bikes run a shorter course to that punks on $4,000 5 year old 750's don't embarrass the Supercar Mafia.

I go to a LOT of Rolex vintage races - and it is very rare to see vintage Mercedes being raced.  The 1939 Mercedes-Benz W 154 Silver Arrow I photographed was at Lime Rock 2 years ago - and yes, it was worth several million dollars.  The owner had a pro take it out and run it at speed during lunch.  Ballsy - very ballsy.

As far as Auto Union - no-one that owns one appears nutty enough to actually run them on the tracks I go to.  Audi commissioned several reproductions that run at vintage events from time to time.

1.  Vintage races aren't "BS".  They certainly beat the tar out of poseurs standing around garage queens parked at a show.  If you don't like vintage races - don't attend them.
2.  If you want action photos from 1936-39 I'm sure enough research and/or money on your part will turn them up.
