What do you think?  Looks like a winner to me.  425 HP in the base engine.  500 HP Z06 coming out in 2006.

Kinda like computer prices... when the new model comes out, you usually want it instead of the old model...

I have a 00 C5 and I will not be selling mine for this new C6.  Although it is a great looking car and has more HP, it is not enough for me to get rid of my C5.

I love it! For a split second I thought I was looking at a new Ferrari Maranello design, my all time favorite, if-I-could-only-have-one car, the flare of the rear fender, the dip at the door and the flare over the front fender. Did they contract Pinafarina (I so know I am butchering that but its one of thoese days)? Even the rear end has some Italian stallion to it. Forget about the new Mustang.....

I heard these puppies come with a six speed auto as an option...now that is gonna be fast.

Is the base model supposed to be significantly lighter than the old base C5?  Because from what I read about the C6 Z06 is supposed to come in several hundred pounds lighter than the C5 Z06.

The base model will really be a friggin sweet performer with it's major HP boost if it is lighter than the old C5 to boot...  Would be awesome if the base C6 outperforms the C5 Z06 (a great performer)...

Perhaps the best looking American production car, ever. Great beltline, swooping fenders, deep side cutouts, but it is still unmistakable as being a Corvette. Nice work, Detroit!

Uh, Mr. di Montezemolo, there's someone knocking on your door, and he's driving a red car, and it ain't got no horsie emblem.

Traditionally, GM has UNDER-RATED their sportscar V8s (in both the Vette and the former F-body line)....

As for the GM 6-speed, it's a PAIN IN THE ASS, and very few people get it... To meet CAFE standards, the GM 6-speed has this feature called CAGS (or skip-shift, in common terms) that forces a first-to-fourth shift when certain conditions are met... It's annoying enough that most either (a) buy an automatic, or (b) install a device to disable CAGS...

I drove a Formula Firebird with CAGS once... Did not like it one bit...

P.S.

It's nice to see GM continue to do all this with a plain-old pushrod V8...

No DOHC...

No all-wheel drive...

No forced induction...

Just pure power, out of a fairly simple (by today's standards) engine design...

... It's all still confounding to me that GM can do this with a naturally aspirated small block motor. I'm curious as to what octane you have to run 'em with. I can't imagine getting 400 ponies from 8:1 pistons no matter what grind on the cam, injection and breathing.

Its displacement on demand too. The Corvette is honestly the only Chevy I ever really liked.

Dave, are you talking about the manual six speed? Because thats a Tremec unit and also used in the Ford Cobra and Dodge SRT-10.

DzlBenz
..unmistakable as being a Corvette. Nice work, Detroit!

Vettes just don't do anything for me. They attract to much attention. I like to stay low key.

I hope GM redesigned the interior too. I like the looks of the C5, but IMHO, the interior looks like crap.

I can't believe your the first person to hit on this.

The angled pic from the backside looks exactly like a 360!!

The side flares look just like the ones on the NSX.

My 2002 C5 has the 1SC package (i.e. the whole works - leather ...).

I've been in a few Porsches and they don't have anything over what I have.

The dash board with all the plastic knobs and that huge equalizer looks really cheap considering the C5 is a 50k plus car. The same dash is in their Cavalier.

MillerSHO - Balzac wasn't the first to say this (there's post above talking about a modena and asking if Pinifarina help design it

That aside,

I WANT ONE!

that thing has some NICE lines to it....MUCH better IMHO than the C5

Don't get me wrong, I think the Corvette is America's best looking car. The lines are stunning. I just don't like the interior

Beautiful car. The next thing you need to do is pay a retainer fee to a good lawyer. After the accident, when you say you were only going the posted speed limit, the "black box" will rat you out in court. Good Luck.
