Saw Goodfellas first. That ruined the godfather for me. View Quote I will say this. When that movie first came out I watched on the very day it premiered there were at least two scenes that for whatever reason is not shown on todays version. The old guy that was begging Don Corelleone for justice for his daughter. Well the Don sent some guys up and cut their nuts off. The other part not seen was the Hollywood producer who was a pedophile and Tom saw this young girl when he was about to leave the producers mansion. He relayed the message to the Don what kind of an asshole Waltz was and then the Don sent his guys after the producers horse. |

Reading some of the replies here I come away with the same impression of the posters that once see a post that is more than three paragraphs they throw up the tl;dr routine.
Your loss....... |

I never saw the original in the theater , it would have been 6 or so years later when it was shown on network TV. They cut the crap out of it and left a pretty disjointed movie but it was still very good.
Some day I suppose I should grab a complete copy and watch from start to finish to fill in some of the gaps |

All those that have not seen The Godfather proceed to choke yourselves.

I picked up a 3 DVD set (I II III) at Walmart for $12.96. Pretty good movies, showed the beginning of Vito to the end of Michael.
I saw Scarface and Goodfellas too, good movies and I got those DVDs too. You gotta see American Gangster. |

I saw the movie when it came out. It was slow and boring. The only good part ws the horse head. Never cared to see it again.

Just one of those movies that didn't hold my attention. None of the Godfather's did, neither did scar face.

Great movie, even better book. There are whole sub-plots & back stories in the book that aren't even touched on in the movie.

The Godfather: excellent movie!
The Godfather 2: great movie! The Godfather 3: turdtastic shit poop..... |

Is there another "The Godfather" that wasn't made in '72? Actually. . . yes. I believe it was ABC that purchased the rights to both Godfather 1 and 2, then edited both for presentation as a miniseries on television. IIRC, That would be The Godfather Saga -- Showed you what happened to the Sicilian body guard that killed Apollonian. Blew him up in his car outside his pizza shop in the US |

While GFIII wasn't up to the standards of I and II, it is worth watching to complete the story.

I love the first 2 films.. the third is an abomination that someone should suffer for, and i don't just mean the people who watched it...
there was an episode of the tv show modern family that did their own version of the christening scene in Godfather part 1, that was 1 of the funniest things i've ever seen... |

What's the matter with you? I think your brain is going soft with all that comedy you are playing with that young girl. Never tell anyone outside the Family what you are thinking again. Go on.
|

Don Corleone: Tell me, do you spend time with your family?
Johnny Fontane: Sure I do. Don Corleone: Good. Because a man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man. |

Godfather, Part II is on right now. One of the few sequels that is as good or is better than the original.

It was great especially when combined with the books. I really enjoyed the flashbacks to turn of the century America (10s-20s) that explained so much about the logic behind why the mafia existed and why Vito developed the way he did.
I didn't care a lot for certain aspects of the second movie (Hyman Roth and Freddies inadvertent betrayal) but some parts were directly in line with the first movie. |

View Quote Recycling of leitmotifs, helicopter gunship, Vatican conspiracy, Sofia Coppola with her pouting and cousin-loving way As a whole the Godfather series should be seen as an opera and a morality tale, rather than a true-crime story like Goodfellas. |
