I know we had an old thread on this but didn't seen anything current.  The bow was removed yesterday, all 6,000 tons rough estimate.  Now just 7 more pieces to go.
That crane is impressive.
Edit:  This is the car carrier in Georgia.

Believe they have used large cutting cables underwater before. Move cable back and forth and it will eventually cut through a ship.

Don't know if they used the same here...

A big chain being pulled back and forth on huge blocks.  It tears more than cuts but the end result is the same.

I was looking at the wreck thru my spotting scope yesterday from the pier on the north end of the Jekyll.  fascinating to watch work on that scale.

Was expecting to see a vessel ran aground at max speed and dismantled piecemeal by hundreds of loincloth clad workers.

I can wear one while I operate the cutting chain if you like, but might raise some eyebrows in the control room.

Is there any ARFCOM Close video of this, 'bash it into submission' cutting technique?

Choice of workwear totally up to you.

I'd have to check if I could post a short clip, we are working under an NDA.

Does kinda look like a whole row of pickemups on the lower level.

Wouldn't mind seeing video of the chain cutting.

The ship capsized while leaving port in Georgia because the Captain delayed taking on ballast water. He wanted to wait until the vessel got offshore and they could take on what I guess he considered to be cleaner water.

Scrapping cargo is normal when half of the cars have been underwater for months and there was no safe way to unload the rest.  Check out the Cougar Ace accident from 2006.

Cougar Ace and 4000 Mazdas go to the junk yard

In that accident, none of the cars were damaged but the insurance company was afraid of selling them, so 4700 brand new cars went to the scrap yard.
