There’s an interview on the Fighter Pilot Podcast with a Marine 1 pilot. He answered the one question I’ve been wondering about. Why not go with a CH-53 for that job? The downdraft disturbs the plants in the Rose Garden. Attached File Looks like they had one at some point… |

Oh my God, he's destroying the people's house, he needs congressional approval, I didn't vote for this, money could be better spent on DEI, it looks terrible, noise and air pollution will kill the minorities sin the area, won't someone please think of the children....  They've needed an actual landing pad for as long as they've had helicopters landing on the lawn, a pad with the official seal in it should look pretty sweet, especially compared to what they have now. |

Landing on grass never made any sense to me. All it does is destroy it, and ruin everyone’s dress shoes from walking through the mud on the ground or dew on the grass. I think a retractable helipad on the roof would have been *way* cooler, but this will do.

It was an interesting interview, it got me thinking (not an architect) but if I was building the official residence of a world leader I’d put in a fairly big stone and concrete space for large helicopters or even tilt rotors or other aircraft to land in. Attached File I mean… these are designed to take off and land vertically.
